    prior owner could have added MANY things and taken them off at some point before selling and left the button

    The black pads next to it are switch blanks. They just fill the holes for switches that were supposed to go in.

    switch blanks, some higher model tacomas had locking diffs, trac, fogs, etc........... these blanks are where their switches would go

    There is no "little red button" next to the steering wheel that is OEM, so it could any of a whole wide world of things little red buttons are capable of controlling...
