This is how I did mine as well. Dremel the shit out of the back of the blank so it fit snug, then drilled for the retainer nut just enough to hold everything tight.
The 3017-P is the harness I used, clip the harness and butt splice and heat shrink it all together.
Took about an hour all total and that was being careful to not damage any finishes.
    Love it. Looks factory clean.

So here is my purchase plan for complete plug and play. Does this look right?

Got mine hooked up last night. Check your glove box for the factory supplied pigtail for your trailer brake harness before you buy one. I bought the one mentioned here and then found the factory one during the install.

I checked the glove box the other day. If there isn't one in there (2019) should there have been? Should I go back to the dealer and ask about it?

From what I've seen it looks like every controller needs an adapter. Why didn't Toyota just pick a connector that fits something (anything) existing?

Also it occured to me as I was going to sleep last night that the little mounting knob thing is for the 'short' switch slot, and the one space I have empty is a tall one.

I guess I need to hunt down a meso stage 2 so I can eliminate the ect button and replace it with this.

@s7726 I ended up using the panel from this thread:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...on-2017-trd-sport-step-by-step-w-pics.569685/

Now I have my Redarc mounted, and gained 2 extra switch spots for additional lighting.

I came up with the same color coding, I was able to verify with a picture of the Tekonsha Tacoma pigtail but am still curious if that is correct. I will be returning my Curt Spectrum and purchasing a Red Arc today.

Go Here and you can see a 360 degree picture of the Tekonsha pigtail.

It has been working in my truck for about 6 months now wired up this way. Awesome brake controller, it kept me from rear ending a full size Chevy pickup whose brake lights didn’t work.

Here's a prototype brake controller panel I just made for a customer. Uses the Tekonsha with a custom lever. I hate how far it would have to stick out with the stock lever.

Custom longer arm was made in order to get the brake controller flush. The increased leverage actually helps fine tune the brake too.

That's awesome. The brake controller is a beast and doesnt really fit anywhere on this gen so it's a great solution.
