So went out mudding yesterday in the hills of kamloops. Had a friend with me with an extra cab trd 4x4 of the same year as mine which is 2000 tacoma 4x4 non trd reg cab. And some vary odd things happened lol I have near to no tread on my truck but made it places my buddy cant with his near new off road tires he just got. we were both in 4hi or low when needed but he got stuck left right and center where I had no problems. He even had all 4wheels spinning at some points when he put his wheel locker in which I dont even have. So what I am wondering is what could cause this ? I know reg cabs are supposed to be much better off road but to this extent I just dont know ? Has any one els had this type of thing happen where the reg cab just puts the extra cab to shame ?

I think maybe its a combination of him following your line / being a meh driver. Yes, the smaller reg cab is more maneuverable but there are extended cabs doing some crazy shit out there. Think skill plays a big role. Take it as a pat on the back.

yea we aired down to about half cap of the tire spec as with any 4 wheeling we have done always did no matter what we drove.. And I will take it as a pat on the back lol But I have a feeling its just the extra distance from front and rear tire that had a more easy time vs the extra cab. I want to get a locker for mine to eventually then I can pull him out with my truck more easy when no tree around to winch to

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Of course RCs will go more places, they are way shorter. It's like comparing a Jeep CJ5 (83in wheelbase) to a CJ7 (93in wheelbase) the 5 will go into tighter places than the 7. Length can make all the difference in the world in tight areas. But for climbing steep stuff, I'd want to be in something long, they are more stable. If I ever get the money to modify a Taco it will be a 1st gen regular cab or a older reg cab pickup, would prefer the solid front axle mainly.

Yes vary true, but reg cab even handles better for climbing along with getting around everything more easy. The reg cab just digs in and the extra seems to just hold back almost... I tried getting my buddys truck up spots I had no problems but no luck with his extra, even with his wheel locker
