    I ran 265/65/17 for 50k on 373's

    then 265/70/17 for another 30k+ on 373's

I just put on 255/85/16's 2 weeks ago and there is considerable loss in power. My brakes also feel like mush and will be upgraded next time the pads get replaced.

I don't have an issue with any gear except OD and only when going upgrade, but it is enough of an issue I would look into 456's if I had the cash.

Yes I have the auto tranny as well, the ghost shift is not bad unloaded. When the truck is loaded the shifting is more frequent. It dosent bother me, but that is deffently something to consider when going with that tire size.

Edit: and X2 on the brakes seem to lack stopping ability, upgrading them is on my to do list.

Is the factory e-locker compatible with the 4.56 gears? Sorry don't really know how the e-lockers work. I know how diff's works and the concept behind a locker though.

I plan on running 4.10's with my 285's because I have been told that it will get me the best gas mileage (for having 285's)

4.10s are closer to stock ratio then the 4.56s. However, 4.10s are not made aftermarket. You will have to buy them used or from the stealership.

What's the brake upgrade? They've always sucked something fierce imo, since the moment I test drove it. You guys talking abt the factory TRD high-performance brake kit?

Rear disc brake kits for these trucks are a joke so IMO I would stay away.

Ill just upgrade rotors and pads.

Cool. Thanks. I may add that mod to my list, depending on how the taco performs in Moab in the next couple weeks.

Hey, don't mean to thread jack or anything, but I have a quick question. When I bought the truck it had 285s on it already. Is there anyway to tell if it's been regeared without taking the diff apart? I suspect it may have been, but not sure.

    3" OME lift with 885s & Dakars on 255/85/16 BFG KM2s.
A little too big for my 4Banger on the road but great when off road.

I'll bet you are already aware of this, but the 4bangers come stock with 4.10 gearing.

    Hey all,

I bought 4.10 gears front and rear off a 4 banger. I have a 4.0 Tacoma, does anyone know what else I need to install them?
    4.56 are better i know but I already got 4.10s for 70$ :)

Do you have a TRD offroad?

The gears are full assembled diffs right? If they are and you are not a TRD Offroad you will just need some gear oil and some Toyota FIPG sealant to seal the rear diff when you put the rear diff on. A friend would be handy to help too. The front diff is a little heavy.

Nope mine is not the trd, so no e-locker, what do you mean by full assembled diffs? I only bought the ring and pinions...

Got ya. Someone else will have to chime in. I don't know all the details of setting up ring and pinions in the diffs. I bought diffs that already had the gears in them and just swapped them in.

They mean the entire 3rd member. My advice is don't install them yourself. You have all kinds of things to worry about, like setting the correct backlash and correct torque on the ring gear. If done just slightly incorrect your diff will turn into a grenade. Have a shop install them.

I went from 3.73s to 4.10s when I put my ARB in the rear end and I didn't get any worse or better fuel efficiency. I did however gain back some of the power that I lost. You can pretty much roast the 33" tires at a dead stop and punching the gas. Truck definitely feels like it has more get up and go
