You'll have to get the vin's verified by the chp as well. It will require an appointment

Really? Wasn't aware of anything needed to be done outside of the DMV work. Just taxes, smog, and registration.

If it's newer than 2013 the vins can't be verified by the DMV. It has to be done by chp. Pre 2013 either can do the vin verification

It better be something you simply can't find here in CA or you're saving thousands to make it worth your while. You WILL still need to pay California sales tax and full registration costs so you will not save any money in that regards. As others have mentioned you'll also need to have the vehicle inspected and weighed since its commercial. Other states also often have crazy doc fees of $500+ so make sure you're accounting for local fees when calculating your "savings" and also make sure they won't double tax you by charging local tax/reg since you'll be paying for all of that in CA

Thanks, got the weight certicate today, and the vehicle VIN verification can be done at the DMV, verified that today... As per why, picked up a TRD pro for $2500 under msrp but shipping was $1300, so approx $1200 under. Overall happy and luv the truck.

DMV made me use chp to register my new diesel last year, things must have changed. That'll make it much easier for you

I received a notice from a third party vehicle registration service (that my out-of-state dealer used to file my paperwork) stating I needed a smog and vin verification before vehicle transfer can be completed by DMV.

I did the smog, but when I went to the DMV today, the rep said I need the title in hand. How can I have the title if it's "new" and financed? Can someone tell me if this indeed needed for a vin verification?

The dealer needed to send the paperwork to the DMV that you were registering the truck at. The DMV would have the title in hand at that point and could do the vin verification for you.

That's what I thought the dealership already did. I am a little confused at the moment. I think the rep gave me the wrong info. I just noticed she handed me a form for title and registration, instead of the form for Verification of Vehicle. I will call another DMV to check.

Your dealership should have asked you to tell them what dmv branch to send the title to. Did they ever ask you that?

No. They had all my documents processed through a third-party service.

I was correct. The initial DMV rep gave me the wrong info. I called another office and they told me all I have to do is drive the truck to the designated area marked "Vehicle verification" located outside the DMV office (it 'usually right next to where the drive test line is located) and a rep will come out to help you. That's exactly what I did and now it's done. No title needed. A rep came out and checked the vin # at several locations and filled the Verification of Vehicle form, gave it to me to send back to the place processing my reg/title who will in turn send it back to the DMV.

Of course, this run around could have been avoided if the dealership allowed me to process the DMV paperwork myself.
