Hello all. Not Tacoma related so if not allowed I will delete. I just got on the island and I am looking to pick up a island beater for until my Tacoma gets out here and I am having issues finding out how much it will cost to transfer ownership of a vehicle out here without having a VIN. Does anybody know about how much it will be for a $2k car on Oahu? The registration is good until 12/17 and safety until 8/18. Thank you for the help.

It's like 10 bucks to transfer title and registration. Then when registration is up you have to go pay the man. Most small cars are under 300 our trucks are closer to 400.

Ok, thank you for the links, I saw those, but all I could find from them is requiring the VIN. Thank you for the approximates on the cost of the renewal. I will try to check it when I go look at the car, thanks for the heads up though!

FYI....Unlike some places on the mainland like California where the registration cost is based on the value of the vehicle, Hawaii bases their registration cost on the weight of the vehicle. You can have a 20 year old truck and a brand new one, if it weighs the same, the registration will be similar cost.

If you're military, talk to your Personnel branch BEFORE you go to the DMV so they can help you with the non-resident military form (will save you a couple hundred on registration each year).
