Hello, im new obviously from my post count but not new to forums and yes i searched first. I currently own an 05 Scion tC which for the most part has been pretty good to me. Its a Toyota so the engine is pretty nice. However it seems like Scion/Toyota didnt do that great of a job on the interior/exterior. Exterior i have paint chips like knowones business. The paint is really really thin. The interior is so cheap im afraid to go over bumps cause i dont want the clips to fall off. Its a nice and clean looking car but paying $360+/month for another 3.5yrs probally wont cut it with me. Ive always LOVED the body style of the 04 Tacoma 4dr. and my dad has always wanted me to get one. If i do plan on getting one which i might im going to try to find an 2004 with no more that 55-60k miles in good shape. I think i can try for around $14-15,500. I can afford about a $2.5-3k downpayment and can finance it with the credit union i work at. Im 21yrs old and want to buy a house in a couple of yrs when i get the extra money, hense why i want to get something im gonna be happy with and can see myself in the vehicle for another 5+yrs. I live by the beach so the truck will be very nice to use. Question is, do yall regret getting yalls Tacoma? Any year having any problems inside and out? My dad has a 4x4 Ranger which is pretty nice, but its a Ford. I want to make sure im making the right choice by going this route. I did have a 93 Ford f-150 that was my dads and he gave to me my senior yr in high school in 04. Kept it for 1 yr and let it go. It was a nice truck but too long. Never cared for BIG trucks which is why im not going with a Tundra. Just wanted to get some feedback and thoughts on my situation. Thanks for any help.

If you get an '04 you'll have few to no problems whatsoever if the previous owner was good to it. I've had my '99 Taco since the day I drove it off the dealer's lot new. No problems except for a bad starter. With regular maintenance you can get at least 200K miles on these things. The '04 would be a great choice IMO.

The 04's are awesome trucks. You can get a Double Cab 04' with the 3.4L and have no regrets easily.

Eventhough I have an 07' 2.7L, it was my friends 04' 3.4L Extended Cab that convinced me that I wanted a Tacoma. He took his everywhere, and never really used his 4 wheel drive (although he did have it, and I regret not getting it). We even chose to take the his Tacoma over my girlfriend's 01' X-Terra, because of the comfort, power, and capability of his Tacoma.

I have no regrets about getting my Tacoma (even if it isn't 4WD). It serves me extremely well, and has gone above and beyond the call of duty more than once.

Oh - WELCOME TO TW! :D

I was actually looking at 04's before i got a new one. the ones i was looking at were around 20 to 22k (of course that was asking price so i knew i could talk them down) anyway, when i saw that the older body style still upheld its value even though the new ones were out, i decided to spring for the extra couple of grand to get a new one. I love my truck and dont regret a thing. if you can find an 04 for the price you're looking to spend i say get it, they are great trucks. The good thing about the 04 is that at that point that engine had been used for many many years (i dont know exactly how long) but by then any bugs it may have origianlly had would have been worked out a long time ago. start lookin, buy it, then start spending time on this forum :)

I ended up buying a brand spankin new one. Best pile o money I ever layed down.

Start searching online. I got an 02(identical to 04). I love it, but it took me a few months to find it with the equipment and the price I wanted. Coincidentally, I traded a Scion Xb in for my truck. The Xb was an awesome vehicle for the price and a real head turner, but I had always wanted a Tacoma. I couldn't be happier with my truck.

Plus if you buy a house that truck will become a vital tool.

The only thing that went out on my truck was a thermostat.

Start looking. I wanted a 4-door(got 2 kids) and found some, but I just couldn't afford them. I went with the access cab which works for me and the longer bed has paid off.

well, i want to save up some more money and parts alone on my car will probally be about $1500+ on the downpayment. I want to be able to walk into the dealer and ask if they can find it for me so i can trade it my car. I know it will be hard to find it through a person selling it and then try to find someone to buy my car. Just dont want 2 cars under my name at the same time?

    If you're finding them for 15k, you're doing better than I did. I couldn't find a 4 door for under 18.

If you want a 4 door, you are going to pay a premium for it, they are on everyones want list. I have been offered 19K$ for mine last week.

Do you carry around passengers often? If not, the access cab is still a fine looking vehicle, still has the reliability, has a longer bed, and will be cheaper.
Another alternative: find one with higher miles....if the truck was taken care of, the higher miles shouldn't be a big concern.
