any chance of building 1st gen bumpers like this?? if so im in!

 

cut bedside, or just wrap around protection?
I'm planning on a wrap around option but not sure about a cut bedside version. 1st gens already have a bit more clearance than a 2nd gen

 

For the guys who have installed this rear bumper, I have a question.

At what elevation did you place your first horizontal cut in the bedside? I say first cut because I figure you want the first one low and then you can cut off a little more as necessary to provide proper spacing.

Under the rear brake light is fairly stright forward but at the flare it is not so easy to gauge where the cut should line up.

I thought I remembered seeing a how to post with pictures but I looked for over an hour this morning and could not locate the thread.

Any help would be appreciated, I do not want to cut the bedside incorrectly.

So the first rough cut you made 1/2" below light and then you carried that line forward to the flare by measuring down from the top of the bedside?

How did the spacing of the bumper look when mounted against the first rough cut?

This pic should help you. This is how I cut mine, use a strip of masking tape to eyeball the cut line. Do the first cut below the tail light as Anthony said. That allows adjustment of the angle after doing the rough cut. After the rough cut, lay out another tape line, this time at the edge of the tail light, and coming forward to the fender flare at roughly 26 1/2" I believe it was. Basically you just want to make sure the line is parallel to your bed rails and the body lines forward on the truck so the bumper blends in as much as possible.



In that pic, you can see where I cut along the first tape line, and then laid down the second line with a bit of an adjustment to the angle of the final cut.

 

It was tight

 

Whe also had to remove the black corner brace thing and trim the tailgate support mount being careful not to mess with the strength of it.

 

cut bedside i have some damage that id like to get rid of the person i bought it from backed into a tree and pushed the bumper into the body and it has a nice crinkle all the way to the fender well unless you could make something to cover that?

 

Lol I just got out the air blade and cut even with the bottom of the tail light. Also had to trim the tailgate/corner brace below where the gate hinges are on both sides.
