If someone hits me hard enough to smash halfway through the cab and destroy my battery, I think the acid and fumes will be the least of my worries. I'll put the car seat on that side to provide some extra protection from the battery getting damaged, so it's all good.

I think you missed the point. I'm unsure if you looked at the picture in the original post, but what would you bolt it to in order to keep it in the stock location? The paper thin wheel well, or the busted up battery mount attached to the paper thin wheel well?

    yep..
Can't he weld some 1/4 plate to that surface that's torn up? Spread the load a lot better than a few mounting spots in sheet metal. Then just mount the battery to the plate however you want.

Unless I replace the wheel wells with 1/4 inch plate, it is still mounted to sheet metal no matter how much I add to the top of it. What is the benefit of keeping it there? Many people have suggested keeping it in the stock location, but nobody has provided a reason on why it is a good idea to mount 50lbs to an already heavy driver side affixed to a piece of sheet metal on a long traveled truck. When the stock mount broke loose it damaged the light, HID harness, and the winch lines.

I just wanted to thank everyone for staying on topic, and I should have taken everyone who chimed in about battery safety more seriously. Today I forgot my cell phone charging in the center console. Let's just say, it was't pretty....

Tineye.com is a reverse image search you can use when in doubt of authenticity. It shows image origins based on posting dates and provides links to where the engine found it.

My battery hasn't killed me yet, but it is just sitting in the back seat not even tied down. I knew this sweet cargo net from Raingler would come in handy eventually, now I won't get brained by a flying battery if I get in a crash. Still no feedback on seat replacement with storage though...

Kind of a bust around here lately unless you want to add some LED's to your truck or debate mudflaps/battery safety :jerkoff:

BMW, Cadillac, Audi, and other manufacturers have been mounting batteries in the "cab" for decades. These were non AGM batteries so they had vents that we had to connect to the outside. Also if there is this huge percieved danger what about all the hybrids and elec vehicles on the road. Can something happen sure likelihood very slim. Boats have the batteries under you but sometimes what happens if they "explode." I have mounted many batteries AGM and non in trunks hatches etc. and have never had an issue there isn't that much complication to it. If you want to do it go for it. The comments about the corrosion is a good one because that stuff can be nasty and eat the inside of your car up just like the stock battery tray.

Well I might have missed it skimming through.
If you put the battery in the back seat, make sure your battery has a vent hole you can pipe to the outside. The batteries for European vehicles have specific port for venting and a tube that leads to the outside of the vehicle. So if it vents gets too hot overflows boils over etc etc it all goes to the outside 90% of the time. Even the ATM batteries are vented outside.

From the dual battery thread. 1st 3 pics are of my setup; next ones are other members. My aux battery is a group 34 but a 24 will fit; I went the safer route since I don't need the extra reserve capacity of a 24. You will note I went aftermarket to replace the OEM air duct, and I passed smog, in California.
