I found this image while browsing around on one of the threads but didn't see much of a detailed write up on the process. While the iPad in the dash is cool, I'm actually more fascinated by the relocation of the climate control. anyone else try to do something similar? See picture below.

Lowering that climate control wouldn't likely be too difficult
as it utilizes flex cables to attach to mechanical vent door, etc.
And lowering it would likely see the cables reaching without issue.
Wiring is another concern... but is likely long enough to reach...
But I don't know that for certain.

The hard part would be locating a double DIN facia panel
and doing the likely altercations/modifcations required.

Maybe look on crutchfield's website for a alternative double DIN facia
    that can be altered ?

I'll doubt there is simple/direct bolt up DD facia assembly available
and this picture likely demonstrates a custom made effort.

My google search efforts came up no better.

and so good luck with it.

What's up. I sold my Tacoma so haven't been on the forum lately. I still own the dash and was coming on here to list it to sell. As far as climate controls go I 3D printed a bezel piece that was epoxied into the dash and it holds the controls in place. The controls sit in place and the dash slides over. It's much nicer having them down low and the screen up high, should have come that way from factory... I didn't cut any wires, by unclipping one clip from the tubing inside the dash that holds the wiring harness to it, the wiring is allowed to reach that location without a problem. If anyone is interested in the dash, let me know. $300 + shipping takes it.

Pic right before I took it out:

this picture shows the 01-04 climate control which has no cables, its all electric wires so relocating it isn't a big deal you just put it in the radio slot and then make the necessary brackets for it to mount to, might even be able to just swap mounting trays out if it has one but I never looked that close.

I dont think this can be done for any pre 01 trucks because those trucks use actual slide cables that wouldn't have the room or the correct length cables to be able to fit in a lower position.

but then a creative person might be able to figure out a way to do anything with some imagination

So I'm trying to understand this, so there'd be no radio h/u? Or how does that work.

There are a bunch of different options you can keep a head unit behind the ipad unseen or you could cut a hole so when the ipad is removed you have access to radio. This would be the easiest option with a radio with bluetooth. When I had this setup in my Tacoma I had it setup to play to an Airport Express over airplay. This kept the signal digital. Airport to a digital sound processor and out to amp from there. There are also stand alone bluetooth modules you can get on Amazon for cheap and you can output to one of those, then to a sound processor to split the signal to front/rear/sub and then out to amp.

I'm about to put all the stuff that was in my Tacoma into my Land Cruiser, I have it setup with bluetooth now but made a new iPad dash for it so while I have everything torn out I'm going to swap the bluetooth for airplay. I can provide more details like exact brands of everything used if you're interested.
