So far, so good. It has "missed" the start on a couple of occasions (like the starter doesn't crank long enough), but it tries again after about ten seconds and has worked consistently. I'm not a fan of the engine turning off when I open the door, but hey, all I have to do is push the button and there do not appear to be any real work-arounds for the 2016 push button start. Regardless, the truck has been warm and defrosted every morning. Money well-spent in my book.

I just read through all of this and I wanna make sure I have this correct in my head. Is the truck going to turn off when I open the door no matter what type of remote starter I buy? I would like just one key fob but if I have to get the second fob so the truck doesnt turn off Id rather do that. I just don't wanna start the truck twice every time I drive it because thats extra wear and tear on a rather complex engine system.

if you have a key, it wont turn off. if you have a fob it will turn off.

there is a 3rd party solution from what I remember that will completely bypass the ecu, but its iffy. from what I can tell, it unlocks the vehicle, remote starts, then locks the vehicle fooling the ecu the vehicle is unlocked.

having a fob in the vehicle will make it so it wont ever lock since the ecu will see a key nearby and refuse to lock.

as far as vehicle wear and tear, not much worse than letting it sit idle running for 15+ minutes. just means you need to change the oil prob at 7500 miles instead of the 10k imo.

Jim, when you say that it "misses" to start then on the second or third try, keep an eye on that. If you notice it to happen more and more often you might want to have it addressed. You will see it happen more when your battery weakens and weather changes too. Viper units have a couple different "signal starting" options. Voltage, virtual tach and tach. A LOT of installers will use the first 2 options because it's easy to program instead of running a tach wire (whether it's hard to access, can't find it or pure laziness). It's easy to program and then when you pick up it works but changes when you leave later. I immobilzer bypass module probably doesn't do tach, but if it did some are reliable and some not. Best thing to do is to make sure one is ran. This will insure the truck will start every time while in range. You are showing signs of it not having a hard tach. Also, I say this because it's not that your out of range because it is trying to start the first time.

I've been looking into this myself of late, as I'm expecting to pick up a TRD OR next week which I understand has the smart key push to start feature. I'll be installing the viper 5706v remote start alarm, and from what I'm told there is no hardware solution which will allow a traditional takeover. The truck will shut down when you open the door. If your truck has a keyed ignition, you should be able to do a takeover without shutdown.

Yup. With the key fob, no matter what you purchase, the truck will shut off when you open the door after a remote start. It doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would because my truck is warm and defrosted when I get to it. Pushing the button isn't a big deal but you're probably right on the extra wear and tear. Not only for the starter, but for the engine and exhaust to sit around and idle 5-10 minutes every frozen morning. But, my kids are warm and I don't have to scrape the windows so it's a price I'll pay.

I had the automate 4104a installed when j bought my truck. I can't complain. It works well. Acts just like my old one and included a button for the remote start and an aux button that I haven't entirely figured out yet. :)

I am now on my second Pro T11 installed in my 2015 Tacoma, had to have it replaced due to range only being 1/4 mile(3 mile advertised)! they claim that the range it not good in a toyota because of a "metallic coating" Toyota uses on their glass?? I call bullshit on this

we have unlimited range technically with drone mobile. as long as the vehicle is in range of a cell signal we can do whatever we want from anywhere.

According to Fortin, and other sources, their Evo-one and the Evo-All remote start systems will utilize the factory remotes as well as allowing you to install their optional one-way and two-way RF remotes thereby providing a range of about 1/2 mile. Both units work with the 2016 and 2017 H key or push-to-start systems

The remote start offered by KB Voodoo offers this as well. It can also be started with your phone with a smart start add on

Info for Canadians onwers in Quebec and Ontario:

This week, I add a Fortin EVO-ONE with EVO-START module and Mobile App.

I'm lucky, Fortin, the leader of remote modules and starters, is a few miles from my home. They installed all this.

I start my truck by the Android / iPhone App and the Otodata Private Network*

    *900 MHz wireless network
The system is being operated using the Otodata Wireless Network, which currently covers a vast territory in Quebec and Ontario. You will be surprised by how fast the system works compared to traditional remote key fob or cellular based car starters

No annual/monthly/subscription fees like the Viper $$$ 3G provider Network

The application & EVO-ONE supports display of the temperature inside the cab and the Tacoma factory alarm activation and will inform me of any infraction in the truck.

But as many have mentioned. With the Push to Start, engine turn off when a door is open (Toyota thief security Issue)

If the truck is out of the network or you loose your phone lol! We can use the OEM Tacoma remote for 3X Lock button and will start or stop.

basic it's 240$CDN for EVO-ALL module with the OEM remotes (with installation)
add 135$CDN for the Wirless EVO-Start module with phone App (with installation)
add a other 50$CDN, if you want remote temperature and alarm notification (possible only with the EVO-ONE module for the Tacoma)

total for me: 425$CDN + tax

I put in a CrimeStopper RS7-5G, with two-way remote. I got it on Amazon.

It took me about 2.5 hrs to put in, there are great instructions for the install linked to the unit and vehicle on U-tube.

I've never had a problem with it. It starts and the FOB tells me when its running and beeps every 60 seconds to remind me. You can choose from several run times
    10, 20 or 30 mins.

can you walk me thru the install of smart start? Do I need to flash the evo-all? Evo-all is already installed and functions with my oem remote.
