The installer had to take a key to keep in the remote start box. So you'll have 1 key. You'll need to buy another one from the dealer. Generally about $50-100. I paid $85 for another key.

I've never heard of that. That's the entire reason for the bypass module. It's supposed to emulate the key. Something isn't adding up here.

I haven't found a bypass module that can do the take over feature on the 3rd Gen Tacoma with push button start. I'm hopeful I'll get it with a future firmware upgrade.

this is how it has been done in the beginning of smart keys with chips, like early 2000's...you hide a key inside the car in a box that's close to the ignition..honestly always thought that was terrible b/c it leaves the potential for someone to get that spare key....not that they would know you have one in there, BUT when there's even a chance I don't like it.

He said if I have an H key. Which I did. We would lose a key. I guess something about the H key was not compatible with the bypass. Idk. It was bestbuy so why would they lie??

I just looked up both the DEI DBALL2 (same company that makes viper) and Fortin EVO and they both need you to sacrifice the key.
However, the idatalink does not require sacrificing a key.

Drone mobile remote start is great. Use a app on your phone to Start/Unlock/Lock. Unlimited range. Even tells you on your phone when it's running. If it's locked or unlocked. Your battery voltage and the interior temp. Works great love it. image.jpg

Just save yourself any hassle and never ever ever take a vehicle to Best Buy for mobile installation, anywhere but BB

The Drone is certainly a nice product/service, but I'm not I'm not paying a recurring service fee to simply start a vehicle.

3 years ago I had no choice but to use bestbuy. In all 3 best buys I had and 5 installers in my area. Only 1 guy knew how to add remote start to 6 speed. He was at bestbuy. Had him install my 2 way with alarm with smart start. Didn't have to lose a key and never had issues. I use it in summer too, this is my 4th winter. He even rewired my audio system I installed myself. Made it look factory.

4 years later. Same guy did the install on my taco. Plus he was the only one that garunteed they can add keyless entry to my truck. Everyone else was unsure if they could get it to work.

So far both cars no issue and no complaints.

It is nice though when youre key is across the room or downstsirs, or in your desk at work. Instead of getting up to grab your key. Stay put. Press 2 buttons on the phone and you're good to go.

yeah that recurring fee of $40 a year is a ball buster, could never afford that /sarcasm.

the infamous ""H" key is a know issue for losing a key on Toyota's. compustar still hasn't broken the encryption on that key as far back as the 2014 models that started coming out with them.

I think that's our only option right now. I'm hopeful takeover will become available at some point.

I mean it's only a key. I would be upset if I had to lose a key with the transmitter but you should be able to get a key without transmitter from the dealer and use that. They don't even have to cut the key.

Yeah, you're right, it's actually a non issue given how handy it is and how often we use it. I'll get it and never think about it.

Also, what is the infamous H issue people talk about?

the "H" keys encryption is the deal breaker, they cant break it to clone it. otherwise, they wouldn't have to wrap a key to send the chipped code to the key cylinder.

for the drone mobile, we have winter 6-8 months of the year with some months in the below zero temps, and some cold snaps in the -10F to -25F temps. that drone mobile is a life saver and I will gladly pay that $40 a year for that convenience.

Even if it's not cold outside . Always good to warm up engine before driving n during the summer, You have ac. When it's hot enough, I'll let my car run for 30 min before I get in it, make sure it's nice n cold before gettin in.
