Has anyone seen/built/designed a removable light bar for the OEM roof rack.? I am thinking about something for when the cross bars are in the stow position. I figure you could utilize roof rack clamps made for our trucks, and then fab up a bar with light tabs, internal wiring, and a quick release connector that could be easily "hidden" when not in use. I'm envisioning something with four lights. I think it would be a relatively easy build, but I'm a college student and don't have the convenience of a shop. I might work on the idea a bit when I am home for the holidays. I am looking for input to make the design and build process as easy as possible.

That sounds sick. I hope somebody has a solution. I think 5 lights would prob fit, maybe 6! :) 4 might be too spread out up there, I have 4 in front of my grille.

I think you are 5 or 6 lights. I'm going to do a little photoshopping and see what looks best. Ideas on size/style/brand of lights. If there is going to be 5-6 lights then lets keep cost in mind.

I would just stick with some 6 inch lights and throw up like 5. I'm interested in this as well.

I'm working on it. Putting together a possible parts list. The clamps from the Thule Ride-On Adapter or Yakima Mighty Mounts will provide the attachment points to the stock roof racks. I want to stay with a prefab solution for the clamps and will try to keep the rest of the design/fabrication to match.

I agree. I don't have a factory rack (yet), how solid are the crossbars? HID lights tend to bounce a lot, even with a solid mount, it this gonna be solid enough to not bounce excessively without modification? I would say allowing for 8-9" lights would be awesome if possible (IF you are planning on making several to sell), I think anything smaller than a 7" light doesn't really belong on a roof.

Now let's see somebody throw a 50" Rigid LED bar up there! That'll be for REAL haha. I'm possibly buying a 30" one in the near future, maybe I'll throw it on the roof instead of in the grille!

The stock bars are plenty strong, but I think that I might need to go with 4 mounting points. Obviously two clamps at the end of the main light bar, but then two additional clamps towards the reap with a triangular brace to add stability. I know that the lights will bounce and I want to make sure that the torsion on the clamps isn't too much. I will have some drawing up by tonight. Thanks for all the support.

On a side note: What do you think for the main light bar round or square tubing?
