I got tired of seeing the stupid amount of scratches on my instrument cluster plexiglass, so I decided to swap it out. IMG_2911.jpg
It was $30 which I guess isn't too bad considering how much I have spent on other things for this truck.
It was pretty simple took me about 20 minutes taking my time and being careful.
First thing is to remove the trim bezels that go around you instrument cluster and head unit. Very simple lower your steering wheel down as low as it will go. Starting at the instrument cluster side of each bezel get your fingers behind as best you can and pull sharply but gently straight toward you. They are not held in by screws just clips.
Once you have the bezals off you are left with this. IMG_2910.jpg
Use a large Phillips head and unscrew the four screws.
The entire instrument cluster will come out.
    IMG_2912.jpg
There are two electronic connections that unclip easily. The center white clip has no wires attached and is just there to keep the wiring harness in place, gently pull it out. And you end up with IMG_2913.jpg
There are half a dozen small screws that you need a #15 star bit to unscrew. IMG_2914.jpgThat's it lift the old plexiglass assembly off and reverse the process. I kept the protective film that comes on the new one until after I had installed the unit back inplace and before I put the bezels back on.
I figured this gives me my old one to practice putting 3m protective film on and if it works out okay I'll do it to the new one.IMG_2915.jpg If not I will make a point never ever ever to touch the plexiglass on the new one except for with compressed air. I'll edit this later after my 3m film comes and how that worked out.

I think more than a few of us made the mistake of using a microfiber on it. It's clearly made out of cheapest worst plexiglass they could find. Another quality control issue by the number of folks who seem to experience it.

you can try the super fine polish used on paint with a foam pad - it takes out all the scratches and is much cheaper

I'm wondering the same thing? My 06 has lasted 11 years and only use microfiber towels on it and it's not scratched up at all

Unfortunately it's got a slight curve to it so it's not like you could get a piece of glass cut, and the plexiglass seems to be attached to the rest of the assembly by an adhesive so you would screw it up trying to take it apart. I am cautiously optimistic the 3M protective film works.
