new screen was about $25 from Toyota.

the new screen is obviously perfect. The old one turned out good but you can still see small scratches at the edges.
I figured for $25 more I could start fresh and won’t have to worry about the minor stuff.

Guys, I’ve installed the protectors and am very happy with the shift gate and radio display but the gauge cluster ended up with quite a few bubbles that aren’t going away. I think that because of the small space to work this was obviously user error.

I still have another cluster protector and have ordered another gauge cluster cover and was curious if you guys are disconnecting your battery before unplugging the dash?

Removal and install looks pretty straight forward with snapping off the two trim pieces then just unscrewing and then disconnecting the two plugs, pulling out the instrument cluster, then unscrewing the small screws to separate the cover from the gauges, am I missing anything here?

I’m going to place my remaining protector on a new cover before installing it, should be much easier that way.

I did not disconnect my battery when I pulled my cluster, and had no issues. YMMV, it's always good practice to disconnect the battery when messing with electronics.

It is alot easier to apply the protector with the cluster out of the truck. The curve in the plastic takes some patience. I'm sure the second one will come out great!

Thanks, just the answer I was looking for. I actually ordered two of them, at 25 bucks I thought why not. Gives me an extra to piss with just in case. Did you have any problems pulling off the trim? I absolutely hate doing that, fear that I’ll snap something or end up with squeaks and rattling afterwards.

Nope no issues, just go slow and take your time. It's pretty easy to remove everything, then you can bring it all inside and take your time putting the protector on. Try to do it in a dust free environment, sometimes the air bubbles are trapped lint or dust that gets stuck behind the protector.

Yes, I can see some of the bubbles on the one that I did was actually dust underneath the plastic. I agree that doing it out of the truck with better lighting and better access should make for much better results. Thanks

Can I buy the old glass from you ? I need to use it as a template to cut a plastic piece to cover the lights when I drive under NVG?

    Tyler,
If you’re asking me it’s not a problem but it’s going to be awhile. My new covers haven’t even shipped yet, once they do I’m going to apply my last protector and according to protech it could take 7-14 days until the bubbles disappear and I’m not going to switch them out until that takes place, if I’m happy with the results I’m going to switch them out then. So probably 3 weeks at least. I’m more than happy to send you my old one if everything works out with the new. God only know how long shipping will be on the new covers.

Works for me. I don’t mind waiting. I should have kept the protech screen protector cut out to use as a template. Pay the $5 for the extra protectors I had to redo my instrument cluster.

Yep, I did the extra one, good thing as the first one didn’t turn out too good. If this doesn’t work I’m just going to put in the 2nd new one and call it. Mine was scratched on delivery, if I end up going with a new un coated one I’ll only ever use a soft lens brush on it. Hopefully I’ll be able to do a much better job with it out of the truck and in good lighting.
Any tips on removing the trim? I definitely don’t want to break or scratch anything.

Had my screen replaced under warranty over 4 years ago. It was scratched pretty bad. So for years I just used compressed air to mostly clear the new one. Spent $1 for some kid slime and tried it. Did a quickie job but very happy with 1st try results.

Giving this another try with new glass, I’m going to let it sit for a couple days to see if any bubbles develop. So much easier when outside the truck, even then I had to pull it 3-4 times to remove some dust. If this one doesn’t turn out good I’m going to put my second new one on sans the protector and call it a day. Damn static just sucks dust against the plastic like nobody’s business.

Does anyone know the part number for the plastic clip that attaches to the back of the cluster? The closest part I can find is 82711-2C190.

What did you use to polish with?? I’m afraid whatever I use will scratch more. Thanks!
