Good idea. I ended up putting screen protectors on mine to hide the scratches and protect it from future ones.

Do they make a glass screen protector , like they do for the radio screen?

Yes, I posted my install on the previous post. The kit protects the shifter, radio and gauges.

As a 30 year self employed auto detailer I can tell you without question Toyata sources the cheapest cluster plastic in the industry. No other cluster plastic I've experienced scratches as easily at what Toyota uses. Its ridiculous. Whenever I detail a Toyota I use a makeup brush and the vacuum.

Subaru. Same shit, different toilet. Same with the plastic interior. Subaru loves to use glossy cheap plastic and it scratches VERY easily.

A little moisture on a microfiber towel is really the best option outside of degreasing and deep cleaning. I don't even bother using cleaners or things like armor all etc etc... maybe some 303 aero but mostly a moist cloth. All this shits still going to scratch with normal use but thing like the cluster can be avoided for the most part that way. I do the same thing for interior glass. Distilled water, microfiber towel. No streaks, no scratches. Old microfiber towels get trashed.

Mine came from the dealership sorta dirty. I am so nervous to clean it. Thinking using excess Windex on a Windex damp new microfiber cloth is my best bet? Even then I am scared lol.

Why are they getting scratched? I saw a youtuber installing a screen protector. No car I've owned has has this problem.

This is for the gauge cluster and may work on shifter one but not the radio. At my body shop we had a vandalized Acura and they scratched the gauge plexiglass. Was a back order part. I sanded it wet with 1000 then 1500 and finished in 2000. Then polished with 3” wool pad and cut then went over it with black pad and swirl remover. Same as paint basically. Looked like new. Works as long as they are light and not to deep.

I had about 10 of these small cracks show up on my instrument cluster one morning out of no where... took it to the dealer and they said they won't cover it but won't give me any good reason... It's a 2022 with 3500 miles on it... Its not a big fix but I'm taking this up with corporate. They also want $280, and the part is about $40... I'll do it myself if I end up needing to.

Just scratched mine (again/more) trying to gently wipe dust away using a lintless KimWipe and distilled H2O. The scratches are officially an annoyance. Is there ANYTHING to be done short of replacing the glass?

Same here. I bought some plastic polish to try that was probably as much as the new face. Wish I would have looked.

Glad this thread popped up. Not only was mine already scratched the day I drove it new off the lot, there's a trail of dust under the odometer reset stick, and now there's now big crack creeping up the center of the glass. WTF, Toyota?
My first car (Toyota Celica GT) had the gauge glass angled downward. No glare, no dust. It got a little scratched with my clueless 16 year old cleaning methodology but I got some plastic polish and made it look good as new. It wouldn't have been a big deal for Toyota to A. Angle the glass so it doesn't catch every single dust micron and B. Put some sort of coating on the cluster. Not gonna even get into why it's cracking now but... whatever. Thanks for this thread. Gonna order a new glass and the Screen Protech.

Sidenote, have you guys figured out how to keep dust out of the odometer reset stick? That drives me nuts as well. Like I love this truck and they're famed for their build quality but I'm tired of seeing this crappy screen.

    Thanks!

anyone know the PN for the all black gauge cluster? I've seen the new SR Tacoma have black internals where the 83852-04F00 has the gray / MGM finish

There’s lots of people vouching for screen protech brand screen protectors in this thread and I’m one of them. Buy the whole set (radio display and shifter indicator for a/ts) if you’d like and get another set of “insurance” protectors in case you mess up the install for $5.
They are easy to install and actually hide existing scratches in addition to protecting from future ones.
If you get a double order and don’t like the results, you could order a new cluster and install the second protector on it before you installing the whole thing in the truck
