The SR / SR5 models differ from the TRD+ models with the center cluster display for the 16-19 years I believe. I think the SR / SR5 got the same ones in the 20+ models and the SR ones are black and have red dials? Again not sure with the lower trim years
I would like a black internal one. I bought one a few years ago to take it apart to paint the insides black but cracked the lens trying to get it open.

Thanks for the clarification. So you said it cracked trying to get the lens off? I'm assuming from what looks like a seal around it maybe. It sure looks like it has some kind of adhesive seal around the edge of the lens when I had the trim pulled off the other day looking around. Haven't had enough time to unfasten the cluster assembly from the dash to inspect further.

It seemed like it was plastic welded together all the way around. At the time when I tried the cluster was only $20-$23 so I knew I wouldn't be out much if it didn't end out well

I know this is an old thread but I have cracks in my stress cracks in my cluster so I gave the local Toyota parts guy the part number found at the beginning of this thread. It's still a good number, bad news its back ordered till middle of Oct but it's only $38.

I bought this truck in August. I told them not to wash it but by the time I got to the dealership, one of their 5 dollar an hour drivers/detailers/shit destroyers had already scratched my glass with the same greasy ass shop towel he used to put armor all on the outside of the truck.

If anyone cares, the replacement ones are all silver instead of black like what came with my truck. I don’t care. It was scratched to shit and the dealer didn’t wanna fix it.

The entire operation takes less than 20 minutes, I put on nitrile exam gloves so I wouldn’t get my sweaty greasy fingerprints all over the new plexiglass.

If anyone touches or “cleans” it, it I will literally shove it up their ass.

And I want to clarify I’m not one of those guys who gets upset about scratches and dents on his new car, it’s just that when the sun would hit it a certain way, you literally could not see anything with the swirl marks they put on it.

Finally, I would like to add that anything gentle that is perfectly fine for cleaning plastic sunglasses such as Oakleys and Japanese camera lenses worth thousands of dollars will scratch the ever living shit out of this plexiglass.

Oh no. I find my instrument cluster has an affinity for dust. How does one clean the plastic without putting scratches in it? The truck is only a month old. :frusty:

Buy a rocket blower from your camera shop and be extremely careful as not to touch the plastic nozzle designed to not scratch camera lenses and mirrors to the extremely delicate plexiglass.

If anyone wants to protect their new screens with a Screen ProTech Screen protector, use the coupon code "ROBSAUTOS" for a small discount lol

OK, so I wonder if Swiffer-brand electrostatic refills could pull the dust off the plastic without leaving marks...

I can confirm this particular part does not have the black trim. I just received it, and the trim is the same gray/silver whatever color they call it.

Got no clue on how to identify whether or not a cluster lens has black or gray. You would think somewhere on the web would have that info somewhere. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That’s literally the same part I got and it does not have the black trim, unless there’s some type of internal correction in their inventory or something.

I remember something similar happening when I was ordering parts for my third generation 4Runner and eventually they only had switches in a single color. and it didn’t matter which part number you used, they would only send you one color.

When I bought my truck used last april, the cluster lense was already cracked and being the dealer I bought it from wasn't a Toyota dealer and I beat them up pretty bad I knew I could change it easily. Thanks to this post and the OP I changed mine out today. Did I really need to change it that bad?? lol

I just got 83852-04J70 in the mail. Took it out and discovered that the trim in it was a lot lighter and more whitey/chrome, and knowing it would bother me, I just put the old one back in, which just had minor cracks around the edges. I like the look of the black more anyway, and it is the correct one for the TRD models, and I have the sport. So I’ll be sending it back and will be waiting until 83852-04F00 comes back into stock, whenever that is. I suppose the first part number I gave is for SR/SR5 models like some people here said, which makes me really wish I saw the thread before I ordered it. Plus I had my ScreenProtech film ready to go. Oh well, may just be better to wait for the correct part with the correct color…

The part # from the first post. I did find others that said chrome on it or whatever color. But I guess the one from the OP is the one for my dads SR and my SR5. Mine isn’t messed up I just want one to hold on to for the future. I bought two, for myself and my dad. My dad needs one asap on his SR
