I've searched and come up empty, but I know this has been discussed before so apologies for the noise.

Can someone point me to a thread detailing how to remove (or at least tilt-up) the front seats? I plan on installing a ham radio up in there soon and all the threads on ham just skip to a pic of the seat tilted up, no one mentioned HOW they did it.

    Thanks!

Four bolts. Look for them and remove. Also disconnect any harnesses.

    This

The passenger side seat has occupant detection sensors. Need to be recalibrated or you’ll have an airbag light.

(Also don’t break them.. to replace the seat sensors it’s the whole seat frame on these new trucks)

    1. How do I recalibrate for the airbags?
    2. Do I need to on both Driver's and Passenger's seats? (I only plan on removing the driver's seat, but maybe I'll start feeling crazy and do both)

Only the passenger seat. Pulling the driver seat shouldn’t do anything

You need a tech stream or high end scan tool to recal. And 66lbs of weight (well around that.)

You can pull the seats out without needing to recalibrate the weight sensor

Is that it? Have you done it before? I can get the tools and a weight. Just curious of the process and if anyone has done it in TW.

I would be turning the truck on with the seats taken out.

edit to add this is what I’m looking to be doing. Setting up a sleeping platform.

airbag lights will be on when in that form but then when I get back to using it as a normal vehicle I’d (from what I’ve read) need to re cal the seat when i put it back in.

We do it all the time. Sometimes you get lucky and don’t need to reset it after having the seat out, but a lot of the time it has to be reset

bitchin! Well, if “that’s all there is to it” (not to downplay it), I’m not going to hold back then, I’m going to start taking the seat out and building up the sleeping platform soon! Not sure how much I’d really need to put the seat back in. If we need something with the seat we can take my wife’s car :D thanks for the feedback!

Just remember if the airbag light is on, the airbags will not deploy in an accident

Yup, easy peasy. Only way imo to install some of these seat covers.

Possibly on the newer cars. But From what I’ve Been told the older ones they will not. (Granted I’ve never actually tested this, because well.. I don’t want to get into a wreak!)

thanks! That’s one I will need to ask around about then. I have a 2020 Tacoma, so it’s new enough :D from the sounds of it though, the drives side is always going to deploy. There’s really never a situation where there isn’t an adult driving, so the systems always going to trigger. I think that’s the theory behind it. Sounds like owners manual is saying the drivers side will still deploy. Will look into it more though.

edit: owners manual also says “do not remove the front seats”. Geronimo!!!
