Short version: I want to take my tinted windows out of my doors, put clear ones in and go get a state inspection sticker on it, then put the dark windows back.

Door panel removal is not a problem, just can't find a video or write-up on removing/installing window glass itself.

    Anyone know how?

Heading out to run some errands now then I'm taking the door panel off when I get back, maybe I will be able to see for myself how to do it but any help is appreciated.

(2006 Regular cab, manual crank windows)

    Thanks!

They're not even that dark! D-bag I bought it from was adamant that it was inspectable with the tint but he was full of it. I have just grown to like the look and I am now determined to circumvent yet another law I don't feel like obeying.

Front windows are your only concern in most areas, my reasoning is that since the sliding glass windows are on tracks and not permanently fixed I can DIY a swap for only the cost of new glass. I will not get pulled over for the tint, but I will get stopped for having no sticker lol.

Edit: yours looks pretty dark tho

I'm going to post in a New England thread to see if anyone can PM me some info about a less than reputable shop that will overlook the tint, though I had my local mechanic tell me Rhode Island inspection stations now all have video recording mandatory so that may be a nonstarter.

it came this way from Virginia, when I bought it, took quite awhile before my eyes adjusted to it, I haven't had problems with the law about it

Can't say I'm surprized you haven't been bothered, it looks totally unassuming to passerby and police alike, just an incovience if you're suddenly told it is out of line, good luck in 2018!

Take the door panel off. There is a scissor type lift mechanism that lowers/raises the window.
There are several access holes in the door to use...you may have to lower the window a bit to access
the lift fasteners. The window sits in a groove at the top edge of the mechanism. Not sure on
an 06 with manual windows but on my 09 there are a couple fasteners that hold the window
in the groove. Remove the fasteners and remove the glass.

If you can access the window groove hardware without lowering the glass it helps to tape the glass
to the door, so as to not scratch/break the glass when disconnecting it from the lifting mechanism.
If not careful the glass can slip and fall completely into the door.
The tape will help stabilize things until you are ready to remove the glass
and put the other glass in. Use the tape on the new window too, makes
it a lot easier to line up the fasteners/groove on the lift mechanism.

Good luck if you go down this path.

Thanks bud, I think I will go down this path, I have since watched a number of videos for 4 runners and f150's, I think I can do it. I appreciate the tip on using tape to secure the glass, can't be too cautious I'm sure.
