Hey guys I need to remove the overhead console and can't find any guides (yes, I did a search) on how to remove it for the 2016 model. Before I go yanking on it I just wanted to make sure there weren't any hidden bolts or anything that I have to watch out for.

    Thanks in advance!!

There are simple pull tabs underneath that hold the console up. I just gently pulled on the drivers side corner nearest the windshield then went counter clockwise to each corner until it popped off. It's really simple to do.

    That worked perfectly - thanks!

Here are some pics for anyone else needing info on removing it. image.jpgimage.jpg

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

Oy, so I pulled out the overhead console as suggested and one of the red pull tabs broke. Looks to be easily replaceable. Can anyone advise where to buy this piece? I tried searching for "pull tabs Tacoma" and most results I'm getting seem to be beer related.

Not sure about a video but on my 2015 there was a single screw inside/above the aft sunglasses compartment that is accessable when it's open. Once that is out, the front edge can be pulled down (had similar clips to the 3rd gen) and the aft end slides forward to disengage some tabs above the headliner.

Great Video, but of course, the overhead console is about the only thing he didn't remove! :-(

I set some radio stations. That's about it so far.
If it’s helpful for 2021 owners, removing the overhead console (to help shove excess wiring for a mirror upgrade from Bob the mirror guy), is fairly straightforward. I didn’t need any tools. Just use fingertips around the edges and pull straight down. There are red clips near each corner. In my case, they popped out without breaking tabs or anything. Reinstalling console was just the reverse. Push gently until all 4 corners click back in place. Super simple install of the mirror. Compass calibration was simple. Now on to Homelink programming!
