update: I did another qtr tank (full tank) and right when the needle dropped below the full line I did 75 miles. This was with the secondary filter back on. I think the engineers at Toyota know more than we do so I am keeping it on.

Please advise... Is this the filter you're speaking of?

I took my K&N filter out to check if it was dirty and noticed this thing was extremely dirty. Couldn't figure out how to take it off. Cleanable? Replaceable?

Just to add two more two cents...

I learned about that filter and the delete mod from this site so, what the heck, I pulled it out. Did so carefully in case I wanted it to go back in later. Well, after 2 months, it is back in. All I noticed was a drop in mpg. Let's face it, these V6's aren't high-rpm, high-flow motors. They make most of their power at lower revs than typical car engines so since I haven't been trying to lay down any land speed records moving back and forth to work, any possible increase in peak net horsepower was never experienced. Tooling about at under 2500 rpm and driving like I was trying to get more MPG, I actually lost some.

It's a hydrocarbon filter. Makes buying intakes a bitch in CA. However air raid makes a
CA legal intake. Pretty much an open box cone that protrudes from hydrocarbon inlet. Probably in whoevers best interest to not remove it.
