37s are so much more work and have been a lot harder on the rest of my truck. Wheel bearings and uniballs last about 1/2 as long and gas mileage is 3-4 mpg less. Supercharger is almost always in boost even cruising on the highway and I never get out of open loop on the highway. Baked a set of gears in the ford 9” too. Hindsight being 50/50, I should have stuck with 35s, but fuck it.

Went east this weekend to check out some hot springs and try out the new suspension valving on some dirt/washboard. Stopped in Middlegate for a burger too. Always tasty AF after a couple days in the wild. Nevada is beautiful...

Wife learned how to make shakshuka about a year ago. For a non-meat dish, I'm 100% down with it.

If anyone in Fallon or Fernley sees a 2021 white Hyundai with a missing front bumper fascia, please PM me. Coming back from 173 on Saturday some shithead pulled a hit-n-run on 50, escaped down Coleman, came BACK up Coleman, and took of WB on 50. Reports filed, insurance called, license plate obtained (it's a rental car). To to it off, the suspected driver was popped for a DUI a week prior.

And to top it off, the only bucks I saw were miles away, getting spooked by clowns in their SxS's who (I guess) thought they'd just drive up to the deer and shoot them. I know road hunting is a thing and it's sometimes successful (hell, it has happened for me), but with all the pressure by mid-season, they should really know better. The upside is I really like the Toiyabe's south of Austin. Rugged, beautiful country.

Some people man. I'll keep a look out, I live off Coleman. Did this all go down near the railroad bridge/tracks? Saw what looked like an accident there the other day.

I spent 6 days in 172/173 during archery this year, I saw 8 bucks and got within ~50 yards of 5 of them after they bedded down but that didn't last long. Also saw a bachelor group of elk. Lol road hunters, then they always cruise up or stop nearby and ask "did ya see anything?". I also went riding my dirtbike and cutting firewood near Carroll summit and again north of Kingston a few weeks ago probably pissing a lot of them off.

The actual impact was on WB 50, between Allen(?) and Coleman. With all the construction, I didn't want to cross the cones and get in the construction crew's way. The perp got in front of me after the impact, and went right on Coleman so at that point I thought he was just waiting for a better spot off the main drag (seemed a legit call at the time). But right past the RR bridge, he dropped the hammer (such as it is in a Hyundai) and took off. He lost his bumper about 1/2 mile down Coleman, before the spot where it turns back towards the north. So he left a nice present for the deputy and NHP.

My challenge was seeing deer line-of-sight a mile off, which worked out to a 2.5 mile hike, plus 1000+ ft of elevation gain. As soon as it was light enough to see them, I took off as quickly as reasonable with my pack and rifle, stopping to glass them every few minutes. But by the time I was halfway there (maybe) they would drop over the ridge to bed down. I made the full hike the first time and sat most of the day to watch for them. All I got for my effort was a cold, dark hike back to the SxS, arriving well after sundown.

The second time I stopped short after they went to bed down, and went back to go in from below. Got to the start point and realized there was no way for me to pull off that climb without ropes, so I bagged it.

I spent every morning glassing up high (from Kingston Summit) and saw plenty of nice bucks. I also saw plenty of those bucks take off several minutes before seeing a SxS show up where the deer had been bedded down. If you want to hunt a spot, then hunt it at least. Chew up some boot leather, burn your lungs, hate on your quads, and do the work. I'm almost 50 (weird to type) and guys nearly 1/2 my age were just being lazy.

Despite all that, I learned a lot about the area, plan to scout further south as well come spring thaw, and can't wait to get another crack at them. Why else do we do it?

Hunting Mulies is no joke. I grew up bow hunting Whitetail back east. Get up, climb tree strand, freeze balls off, wait for sun to come up, pass on first buck, pass on second buck, shoot 3rd buck, field dress, drag 300 yards to the truck, go home. Eat lunch. lol

How was the damage to your vehicle? Some of the traffic patterns from the construction have been a little funny but that guy just sounds like an idiot and hopefully they find them soon especially since they conveniently already know who the driver is.

That's the worst part about it, I'm not very fond of the foot work either unless I got good lead. It's always amazed me how much better a deer's sense of awareness is compared to other game. You are a trooper though starting up high everyday, probably burnt a weeks worth of calories on the brightside. The Kingston area especially from big creek always seems like the busiest because of the town/bar proximity, campgrounds and easy access dispersed camping. Further south past the Yomba res is where I spent most of my time this year, less people and easy glassing of both the Shoshones and Toiyabes. But yup that's exactly right, its a good time in a beautiful area. Hard for it to be a bad time regardless of the outcome.

I can pick a better spot next year. I came home 5lbs lighter, and I ate like a horse every night. There were definitely more people camped on east side, but they'd all come over the summit during the day and rattle around on their machines. I'm definitely more interested in the southern part of the range now. My buddy said there were still idiots, but sounds like a lot less.

One thing I noticed was a distinct lack of deer sign in most places I looked. This suggests to me the animals are generationally hanging out in small areas and from what I glassed, that seems to be the case. Good knowledge to have.

The receiver hitch on the truck is tweaked, but the trailer took most of the hit. Taking it in for an estimate next week. Hopefully they pull that clown off the roads soon.

I'll make sure to keep an eye out as well, there has been a lot of accidents lately.
We were successful with 4 of 5 tags in 17 early. Have a mid season guy out right now. It was definitely a tough hunt. My client was awesome, he was just happy to be out in great country. We were all very happy he was able to get a good buck with his dad tagging along. I made them work for it, but it paid off.

If anyone is looking for a 1st gen double cab this thing looks pretty clean. Paper on dash says 104 miles... not sure if that's 104k? Asking $15,900. I have no affiliation. I'll send the number on the paper if anyone is interested.

Just curious….does anyone here tig weld? I did shoot an email to the relentless team. Moral of the story, don’t let other people use your stuff.

just need a small crack fixed (yellow line) and would like to add on a weld up top (red line).

Damn. That's the kind guiding I need next time I pull a tag...sweet Lord. 4x4 atypical and look at the brow tines on that monster!

On the upside, chukar hunting was successful for me on Friday, but I really had to work for those birds. Flushed a covey and took a shot. 4 deer stood up about 20 yards from me - a beefy 3x3 and 3 does. No tag for the area. Then I got to see a pile of antelope stampede half an hour later.
