    Hello,

I recently purchased a 2002 2wd base model Tacoma with the 2.4L 4cyl and my mechanic recommended I replace the front and rear shocks on it. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for replacements that would offer some performance benefits over the original shocks that are currently installed. I am not really looking to go off road or really give it a lift as it is my city truck that I use occasionally for work or to do some light hauling (read don't want to kill my mpg lol). Thank you in advance!

look into kyb shocks on Amazon. 30 bucks a piece and they've served me well, i went with the gas-a-just version

KYB makes a good shock, they will last about as long as any of good brands, should last longer than the originals.

On a 5lug 2WD Tacoma that's street driven expect 80-100K on a set of KYB Gas shocks. I've owned 5 lug Tacomas for over 20 years as my commuters/light utility vehicles. I ran KYB gas on all of them (currently have 2004), for the $$ they can't be beat. Check out RockAuto, sometimes they run a $25 rebate if you buy a set of four.

Buy the silver Gas-a-just shocks, not the black Excel-g, those are weak. The gas adjust are slightly stiffer than stock, better on road handling, etc.

I have Bilsteins 4600s on my 2.4 5 lug. Feel great. Replacing them this week end with a new set. The original 4600s are about 18 years old and pretty rusty now.

Thank you everyone for your input. I decided to go with the bilstein 4600s since I was able to get a decent discount on some. Next step is to install them once they arrive.
