So my tow hitch seemed extra rusty. The plan was to take it off, refinish it and, and put it back as practice for when I start attacking frame rust. (some rust on the frame, nothing terrible yet....).

Well, the factory tow hitch seems like a loss. The "Reinforcement sub-assembly, rear bumper bar no. 2, part number 52043A, one of the ends is rusted through and bolts sheared inside it removing it from the chrome bumper.

The main tow hitch has about an 1/8 in of rust flaking off everywhere and frankly don't trust it at this point.

I am going to call around to some salvage yards to see if they have a bumper/tow hitch that I need.

If that doesn't work I plan on replacing the bumper with a Body Armor 4x4 Bumper and a Draw-tite Class IV tow hitch.

Knowing that the normal bumper and the tow package bumper are different, will I run into any issues installing my new parts?

WOW! If your hitch is that bad, surely there's a 10 mm hole in your frame somewhere.

Wow. How long have you owned the truck? Was it like that when you bought it?

I have been under the truck with a lift couple times now. Frame is honestly in ok shape. Nothing like the hitch. I think the Toyota hitches are sub-par. My wives OEM hitch on her Sienna is rusted over as well. Nothing this bad though.

rogs6266, I could be intrested in that bumper/tow hitch. Ill hit you up in a PM. However I am in KS.

Looks a lot like my frame. Luckily I was able to get the majority of it replaced under warranty. Now I'm tackling the hitch, which is toast, like yours, the rear bumper reinforcement, and the bumper itself.

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
Any link or write up to do the bumper reinforcement? Does the whole bumper assembly need to come apart? Mines flaking into oblivion. Didn't get changed out with the new frame.
