I'm purchasing assembled front wheel bearing units for my 2012 4x4 Tacoma.

Can someone tell me if I will need the following seals?

Back of spindle: 90316-A0001 (Timken alternative 710573)
    Outside CV axle: 90304-A0001

Anybody?? Truck has 112k on the odometer. I'm guessing since these seals will be exposed during the install. I may as well replace them. Or have most who performed a wheel bearing replacement found there to be little need to replace these?

many people do not replace the outer seal on the CV axle. I think that is short sighted. This seal is the first line of defense for water and dust getting into the bearing.

I think I see the issue. It looks like the Timken 710573 Amazon listing is using the wrong picture (it shows the 710477) seal.

I'm sorry, I don't have the part number handy, but when i did mine I could not find an aftermarket option for the seal. It was OEM only.

No worries - think I've got it figured out.

Inner Seal (For outermost portion of CV) - 710573
Outer Seal (For back of Hub) - 710477

EDIT - I have this ass backwards

    Knuckle/Hub Seal - 710573
Outer CV Seal - 90304-A0001 (no alternate P/N)

The 710477 is a seal that actually is already installed on the hub assembly I believe.

2.5 inch lift; 5100's front; OME rear; Air Lift; dual batteries; Bestop bed cover; Nfab nerf steps; EBC rotors; Threadwright Claw MT tires; hood scoop LED light install.
    From my notes:
90312-96001/710477 goes on the bearing assembly that gets pressed on the hub.
90316-A0001/710573 for the outside seal that gets pressed on the knuckle.
90301-A0005 is the o-ring that goes between bearing assembly and brake dust shield.
    43514-28010 grease caps.
90119-A0167 flange bolts; can also use 90119-12369 which are not flanged.

I don't see 90304-A0001 anywhere in my notes; web says it's outside seal for 2003-2005 4Runner and 98-07 Land Cruiser.

I'm on my third set of front bearings. I say don't replace the outside seals (the ones on the knuckle) unless you have rust inside the knuckle. Just put some silicone on the rubber seals and you will be good to go. I replaced driver side but not the passenger side. Requires more work as you have to remove tie rod and sway bar in order to swing the knuckle around to press out the seal.

Thank you. There’s hardly any mention of that o-ring in most of the wheel bearing threads I’ve read. Assume people just reuse?

use a new oring. Seriously, seals are no place to cut a corner. If anything gets past them your bearing is toast.

I hear ya badger. So total parts list coming my way is as follows:

2 - complete wheel hub assemblies
    2 - 710573 (knuckle seal)
    2 - 90304-A0001 (CV outer dust seal)
    2 - 90301-A0005 (O-ring)

    1 - ECGS Bushing
    1 - 90311-47027 (differential seal)
