    Hey guys/gals

Hope everybody is doing great - I did hit the search function before asking - but I'm petitioning to the tacomaworld faithful for their help. Unfortunately, I got rip roaring drunk last weekend and lost a set of my car keys. Retraced my steps and haven't been able to find a solution, so here I am with one fob and I don't like my chances. Worst part was that I took the wrong keys, cause I have a tile on one set, but thats my problem not yours. In fact none of this yours.

Anyways ! Anybody in a similar situation find a solution that doesn't require me spending $600 at the dealership?

    Thanks!!

If your willing to do the work there are instructions here on how to buy techstream and program a key yourself.

You can upgrade to the Lexus key though your talking $200+. You can also buy a normal fob on eBay and program yourself and probably be under $100 total.

I have the Lexus key of course and paid a local locksmith to program it instead of the dealer. All in with the card key, emergency key and programming I’m at or under $300 but the extra convenience is definitely worth it for me.

What are the advantages of the Lexus key?

Will most local locksmiths be able to program it?

The Lexus key is the size of a credit card and fits in your wallet. You do lose the buttons, so if you have remote start it won’t work for you, but since the doors have smart touch you don’t need buttons to do normal lock and unlock. Most locksmiths CAN do it, you just need to have one willing to do a key you didn’t purchase from them.

Look up local locksmiths and call and get quotes they are almost always half the price of the dealership. Some will even come out to you and program it.
