I'm glad it's not just me. The stock Qi charger makes my iPhone 8+ pretty damn warm...

Any chance I can add the OEM wireless charger to my 2016 Tacoma TRD? Mine did not come with it.

I'm not sure about the wiring. But I have one I want to swap for the regular cubby....I have never used mine and I want more storage and plan to use the toggle hole for another accessory.

Probably easier and more bang-for-your-buck if you build a Qi charging mount like the DIY in my signature.

I thought all TRD came with the wireless charger standard?

They do...I wonder if @pacificapt did not push the Qi button to turn it on??

I don't use the Qi charger much (it's too slow), but the first few times I did try it out, I would forget to turn it on (which meant that I would waste a minute or 2 thinking that I did not put it down in its sweet spot).

Are you using a case? From my experience, without a case it works fine for most phones, but with a case it requires particular placement and charges even slower. The coil I have on my nightstand works fine through my case and I don't even really have to pay attention to where on the coil I place it.

The one in the truck doesn't bother me enough to do this myself unless it turns out to be really easy, but I can see where others would not like it.

It works fine, Because I have the note8 as well, the problem I have is how hot the OEM charger makes the phone and Samsung doesn't have the greatest track record with overheating phones ever since the Note7

It was my understanding that it was a characteristic of wireless charging.

Correct, it will always get a little warm from charging, but the OEM wireless charging makes it too hot for my comfort. Maybe if used for short periods of time it would be fine. Maybe it would be fine regardless. The whole point of this thread is to find a solution that makes the wireless charging more efficient.

My sr5 did not come with wireless pad, so I made my own using a hard plastic cup securing the wireless charger with Velcro. It works fine.20171011_100833[1].jpg

I'd be afraid of the phone sliding off when taking a turn. Is that a garage door opener velcro'd where the qi button is supposed to be?

Yes that is a garage door opener Velcro to the open spot with a bit of glow in the dark tape on the switch. My case does not slide on the wireless charger and the rubber surface of the charger helps along with I have a Note 8 that when seated is fixed up against the front panel. Not going to go forward and is positioned for charge location. simple solution for simple problem.

I guess if that works for you. I guess I'm the type that wants everything to look OEM so if I could replace the wireless charger, that would be my preference.

Understand, I am more of a duct tape kind of personality. You see that Velcro next to the emergency brake. My holster fits perfectly in that slot. Secured. Easy access. Hopefully never have need to use it.
