My THANKS to the OP and all who have responded to this post. Purchased my 2016 4x4 TRD Sport in January. First noticed this problem in mid February, but just thought that I had accidentally hit a reset button somewhere. Several weeks later it happened again shortly after a fill up. Now it's become more consistent... Filled up last Wednesday morning, and it has reset itself 3 time since then. Contacted Toyota Support this morning, and the rep I talked to was not familiar with the problem, but opened a case, and gave me the number. So now it's off to the dealer to see what their response is. Again... THANKS to you all for the info you have provided me with.

13 pages filled with those of us having this reset issue and only 1-2 person got it fixed? by replacing the "combo meter@?

Are most of us waiting for official notice of fix from Toyota?
Let us know if you have documented this with your dealership and when? And what do uou plan to fo next.

I don't understand why anyone would be waiting, there are documented cases and a fix that has been performed. Its between the owner and the dealership to make it happen I would think?

    1) We have to work.
    2) The dealer/shop is an hour +30 minutes distant.
    3) Dealer/shop only open Monday thru Friday. Means we have to drive the truck 1 round trip, and the Outback 2. On work days.
    4) Getting closer to 5000 mile servicing.
    5) While it's "looking optimistic ", the fix is NOT confirmed, just looking good.

Personally I can wait a bit longer to go to a shop that still claims to be in the dark.
    PS
Yes, I'm no less anxious to git er dun.

    UPDATE 4/8/2016
Dropped my truck off at the dealers on Wednesday. Got a call from the Service Rep about 15 minutes ago that they are going to replace the Combo Meter and it will be probably mid week, next week before it is ready. He stated that they were unable to duplicate the problem inhouse, but called and opened a case number with Toyota and were authorized to replace it. When and if I learn anymore from the dealer I'll post it.

As I stated in my original post, my first connection was with Toyota Support to get it documented with them and get a case number, which I did. Then spent almost two hours at my local dealer where I purchased my truck. The head service honcho was very understanding, and is currently working on getting me set up to bring my truck in. He stated that it would probably take at least a week to run some diagnostics, get the part in and do the replacement. I actually took in copies of some of the post from this thread for him to read. He also understood the fact that it is a random happening with no way to consistently reproduce it, and that their computer diagnostics would probably not show anything. Their currently working on getting in touch with Toyota Corporate, and getting a vehicle lined up for me to use while my is in for service, and said they would be getting back in touch shortly. This all happened yesterday, March 28th. Haven't heard anything yet today.

Like you, I would be very interested to hear how "Justadude's" dealer (Toyota of Kirkland) diagnosed the problem. It would certainly help a lot of people out.

One thing I'm curious about... Thinking about the times mine has reset, it seems to have happened shortly after I've filled up the tank and reset everything manually myself. I filled up last Wednesday morning and Thursday morning it reset, happened again on Saturday afternoon. Hasn't happened again since then. I'm down a little below a half a tank, so think I'm going to top off, reset everything and see what happens. I'll let ya know what happens, and when the dealer gets back with me, I'll post what they say.

Mine is totally random. It has reset itself immediately after fillups, yesterday 260 miles into a tank.

Since it has happened to me 5 times. Every fill up, so i wonder if i open the tank then close withiut filing fuel...maybe this triggers something, causing the average mpg reset.

My truck is also at Toyota of Kirkland.... all speakers sounded like they were under water.

Brought the truck in today... they just called and confirmed that the amp went out. They said 3-5 days for the new amp to show up.

I don't really see how removing and replacing the gas cap could affect the trip meters and Multi-Information display, but one never knows.

For those of you who have experienced this resetting problem... When you reset the meters and Multi display after filling up, did you do it with the engine running, or with the engine off. With all my fill ups I had been starting the engine and then resetting the meters and display info. Last week I filled up and reset everything with the engine off. It's now down below a half a tank, little over 200 miles and has not reset itself.

On another note, my truck goes into the dealers shop tomorrow for them to run diagnostics. Will keep everyone posted on what they say and do.

Personally I don't believe this to be an operator error. I believe it to be a flaw in a particular part batch.

I'll have to agree with you on that. I do wish that those who have had the dealer fix their vehicle would post some info on what their dealer said, and how they diagnosed the problem. Would be a great help to those of us who are still trying to get their truck fixed.

Yes, I have in fact read all 13 pages of post in this thread. In your update to your original post you stated "As of now Toyota does not know the exact component that is causing the problem". My question is what made your dealer decide to replace this part? Were they able to replicate the problem, diagnose it through computer diagnostics, or just simply a wild ass guess. Some of us may not be dealing with places that are willing to replace something when they can't replicate or diagnose the problem. Any ammunition we could have going in would be very helpful. Also, at this stage of the game, I'm surprised that Toyota Corporate doesn't acknowledge the problem.

My truck goes in for diagnostics tomorrow morning. We'll see what they say.

I hear you... My dealer couldn't replicate the issue, so they wont look any further. Please keep us informed as to what they find and how we can get some movement on resolving the issues. Cheers
