Doesn't exactly promote a warm fuzzy feeling.
In aviation, especially with some of the sophisticated equipment today, if a problem proves "intermittent" therefore non-repeatable on demand, and the actual problem source cannot be observed, you start throwing money at it. In other words, start replacing componants.
Of course in a truck, you just coast to the curb.

Have you contacted Toyota Corporate about this and gotten a case number? Not sure if it makes any difference with your local dealer, but the more of us that call and get case numbers the more Toyota knows that this isn't just a random happening.

As stated in the first post the dealer had nothing to do with the decision to replace the part, it was per Toyota's instructions. As stated in the the first post take your truck to your dealer, describe the problem, when your dealer contacts Toyota about the problem they will know what to do.

I'm not doubting you, but maybe they need to start passing this info down to the people in the trenches who you actually talk to when you call. I called, even before going into my dealer, and the Rep (Jeremy) that I spoke to had no clue what I was talking about, but did assign a case number to my call. You were the first on this forum to post about this problem, and I'm sure we all THANK YOU. But that was in November... so it's now 5 months since your original post, and now 14 pages of post. There are also people who have reported that they took their truck in to their dealer ("fshams" as an example, couple post above this one) and have had no luck in getting their problem resolved.

As I said it's now 5 months since your original post, so if Toyota knows about this why haven't they issued a TSB? On my original visit to my dealer about this, I actually sat with the Shop Foreman while he searched for something from Toyota on this, couldn't find anything. But I will say he didn't actually call them while I was there.

As I said, I will drop my truck off to them tomorrow morning, and we'll see what they say. Again, I say THANK to you for first posting about this problem, and everyone else who has contributed.

I'll let ya'll know what happens to me.

A TSB is for a problem affecting all vehicles within a certain SN range so I don't think there will be one because most seem not to have this problem. The dealer needs to call Toyota's technical support. If Toyota (corporate) denies knowing anything about it then that's a problem.

Yes I opened a case with Toyota Corporate in December and brought up the issue at the dealer to no avail. All they said was we can't replicate the issue and if the corporate is aware of the issue, then they'll find a fix and contact customers.

Well, this happened to me yesterday. Turned my truck on and noticed it was on my Odometer reading when I always leave it in Trip A. Knew the moment I seen it, both Trips A & B were going to be cleared. I'm going to call TC tomorrow and see if I can get a case opened. Don't have the time to take it to a dealership now because I'm going overseas next week so I'd like to get something started with TC for the meantime.

FSHAMS... I just updated one of my post(#251) after getting off the phone with my dealer a short time ago. They weren't able to duplicate the problem inhouse either, but after calling Toyota, they were authorized to replace the combo meter. When I initially went into the dealer, I had my Toyota case number, and had also printed out, and showed them many of the post to this thread. Whether that made a difference or not I don't know. Guess some dealers are just A-Holes. Don't think I would give up on this if I was you. Is there another dealer, maybe in another close by city that you could go to? Here's wishing you luck.

I've had this happen twice now. It's annoying, but I don't know if I want to go through the trouble or give up my truck for 3 days to have it repaired. What is the risk in just leaving it?

It would probably be more like a week that you would have to give it up. They have to do some diagnostics, get in touch with Toyota to get permission to replace the part, and then it's a couple of days to get the part in and replace it. I don't think there is any risk in not getting it fixed, just the frustration/aggravation of knowing something isn't working properly... and not being able to use the trip meters and Multi Display as they were intended to be used.

I should have posted sooner, but for me the dealership was able to reproduce a related problem which is why they quickly did a repair. In my case the trip meters could not even be reset manually (only randomly due to the malfunction).

In for 5000 mile service today (at 3900 miles.) Declined the tire rotation and got the look of, "well, why are you here then?" I left the vehicle for tripometer reset issues and got shuttled home. Will report back.

Edit: In the mean time, I called Toyota Care and received a case no.; they advised there were no related TSBs and were not able to confirm other related complaints.

Sounds about right, I got the same thing about the low transmission fluid. I got a case number last week, but will be awhile before I actually get to have it looked at or fixed. Hopefully by then, there will be a solid answer to the issue.

Same here.. Just rolled over 3300 miles.
Frankly, I'm looking for the next mod to power up my '16 with a Turbomeca Arriel 1B powerplant.

Maybe I'm just way off base but what's the big deal with the trip meter resetting. it's a truck not a prius

Because some of us actually use the trip meters and regardless if I used them or not, I'd still want the issue fixed.

Unfortunately, I use both. Trip A for tracking my mpg's per tank (I don't solely rely on what my truck tells me is my avg mpg's) and to know how many more miles I can drive before I need to fill up (again, I don't solely rely on what my truck tells me for DTE). Trip B I use to track my oil changes even though I track that on my carminder app as well.

So two free shuttle rides later... My service department had not heard of the resetting issue, looks like they drove it 10 miles and could not duplicate; no surprise there. They offered to keep the truck longer, drive it more, and see if reset occurs. I said no thanks.

Now, if it was a Prius....
