"My battery keeps draining/dying. Some mornings I come out and my trip and homescreen favorites are reset and it starts verrrrrry slowly, other mornings it doesn't crank."

    They did the rest.

    1) I produced all my records; 17 resets with dates, odo readings, and that I had contact with corporate with a case number, and
2). Produced a hard copy of TSB 0148 16, the Meter reseting problem.

the part took a month and a half so they had it for 2 weeks before i said i wanted it back... went in a month after that and it was suppose to take 2-3 days... ended up taking 2 weeks because the "vendor" was back logged...

My dealer had my Tacoma for 3 weeks. It was suppose to take 3 to 5 days. I had a lot on my plate because I was in the process of selling my house and had to do some fix up before it closed. I put a lot of miles on the loaner running around getting supplies. This made being without my Tacoma less irritating. When my Tacoma was finally ready, I stopped by the Service Managers office. I explained how it took 3 weeks, how I am a loyal customer of their dealership and could he get me a TRD Pro grill at cost. He said yes. By the way, no resets since the swap. If your dealer takes longer then expected on warranty work, be good natured and see if you can get something extra for the inconvenience.

Keep a written record. Mine did not start until it was nearly 6 months old with 4000 miles on it and that was before they produced a tsb for it. Once it started it happened frequently. None since they replaced the cluster in July. Mine always did it when starting the engine. Probably once a week or more like every 5 days.

How did you get them to replicate to warranty? Did they just take your word for it or were you able to consistently replicate the issue?

    Hi youz guyz.
Just go back though these pages. You'll see what takes place.
Amazing you've had no fails for so long, now all of a sudden. Definitely a gremlin sleeping in there.
Mine had been doing it sine early on. Documented 17 fails. Screamed bloody murder trying to get itaddressed. Finally the TSB came out.
I do suggest you document every fail, and get on record immediately though.

I had several other issues and already had a case number with Corporate. I just added this to my existing case file. The dealer was no help. It took Corporate intervention to get it fixed. Read my previous posts in this and other threads for details. I stated several times that Corporate knows about this and other issues but has been slow to share info with dealers. For this reason I try not to fault the dealers for their lack of knowledge. I also did not let my truck sit at the dealer waiting for a new cluster and they did not insist that I did.

Eh this is the least of my worries I guess at this point with the transmission shift flare and howling rear diff.... just another third gen problem to add to my list. I'll never buy another tacoma after this experience.

My situation was my trip meters would reset just after I got the truck. Took it in around 3000 miles to have the tranny fluid checked and asked them to document the resets. At that time I wanted the tranny checked and figured I would deal with the trip meters later. When I saw the TSB picture in post #350 of this thread, I printed it and made an appointment with my dealer. There was no questioning and they said they would replace the combo meter.

Also, if you look closely at the TSB picture in post #350, the warranty is only valid up to 36,000 miles. I know many TW members put lots of miles on their trucks.

Corporate gave me a 125k 8 year platinum factory warranty so should be covered.

I went to the dealer today. They handed me the print out on this TSB after I described the issue to them. The svc. manager told me to come back when I'm ready to drop the truck off for awhile as they cannot order the part without knowing what the mileage on my vehicle will be when it arrives. The cluster (odometer)has to be pre-programmed with the exact mileage for obvious legal reasons. Toyota Corporate is going to put me in a rental for as long as it takes. Could be up to two weeks. Good maybe I can get them to put me into something with a decent drivetrain.
