(RESOLVED, T-SB-0148-16) Uninitiated trip meters reset

Oddly enough my wifes 07 Yukon lets you reset the hours counter.

 

Just FYI, my dealer finally ordered my new combination meter. The service guy said he'd never heard of the problem, and the parts guy said they'd ordered one before. They were fine with ordering it with the current mileage reading, even though lead time is 1 to 1-1/2 weeks, and only when it comes it will they schedule the replacement. Road trip time!!!

 

Crazy. Well, I had a Hell of a time with that issue, but it finally got fixed, and its never hiccup since.

 

By the way, in the end the combo meter came in just 2 days. But they wanted a half-day to install it, as no tech at their dealership had ever done a 3rd gen combo meter before. Anyway, no problem, it's installed, no dash rattles or scratches, and no resets so far, though it's only 1000 miles or so.

 

Probably 8k miles since my swap. Had zero resets since.

 

Just took mine in today for this issue and a couple of others. Ultimately they said there's a TSB for the cluster resetting. They ordered a new cluster, are holding my truck to keep the mileage accurate, and put me into a new Tacoma to drive until I get mine back.

 

I'm so lazy. I finally got around to dropping my truck off at the local dealership to get this fixed. I'm at 26k miles and figured I'd better get it taken care of before my warranty was up. They looked up the TSB and agreed that was the problem. Ordered the part, kept the truck, gave me a rental.

 

You guys are great. Mine has done this at least three times.
I logged on to see if anyone else had this problem,,,,yes.
I will contact my dealer.

 

Just an update ... over 5K miles on my new combo meter and no resets. I'd say the problem is fixed. At over 40K miles on the truck, this and the shifting TSB have been the only repairs other than routine maintenance.

 

picked my truck up today, they installed new dash cluster, time will tell.

 

I do not believe I've seen a single case of anyone saying they have had any problems post new cluster change out.

I've had my '17 TRD OR for less than a week now and the trip distance seems to reset EVERY time I drive the truck. Have I got it set wrong or is this the issue discussed here?? Seems for most it is intermittent.

The Trip A and B numbers by the ODO? Sounds like a different issue but worth going in for. This was very random and I don't think a 17 would have this issue still.

 

I'm an idiot- didn't see the manual post by the tach to toggle Trip A/B/Odo.

 

look like 2017 got this issue too, the trip meter and the avg. mpg/liter have reset 2 morning in a row this week. I got 13000km on odo. Its an early 2017 that i bought in october 2016. Going to dealer tomorow.......

 

Is this trip meter problem only with the trip "A" and Trip "B" readings on the odometer? Reason I ask is my 2016 Tacoma DCSB TRD Sport 4 X 4 odometer has, for the first time in 29K miles, given me a wrong reading.
I keep detailed readings on my gas mileage and have had no problems with the odometer. Yesterday I filled up and thought my odometer was off when I got home I looked at the last fill up and it was at 29715 miles, the one yesterday was 29663. I wasn't driving in "reverse" and couldn't have burned 17 gal. in 82 miles! =8-0

update.... been to dealer yesterday and told them about my problem and i gave them the tsb number for referance. They told me that there no tsb for that problem yet (im canadian), they opened a case with Toyota canada. Dealer called me back today to say that they will change the cluster and they dont need to park my truck since they will reprogram the new cluster when installed.

 

Tsb /dealer changed the cluster solved the problem for me too. No resets after 1000 miles. It took about a week and dealer was very kind to give me a loaner tacoma.
