Mines does it on almost every tank of gas. I notice that it happens when I got about 1/8th of a tank left. I got 3800 miles on mines and will report it on the first service

I just wanted to add my two cents to this thread. My 2016 Tacoma has ~1500 miles on it, and this has happened twice for me, too. Both trip meters plus the MPG calculation gets reset. Doesn't happen on tank fillup and doesn't happen all the time. No real pattern, except that it must happen when the vehicle is switched off, because it never occurs when the truck is running. Seems a lot like an interruption of power to whatever mechanism stores that kind of temporary data, but that's just a hunch.

Anyhow, I took it the dealership and they're telling me they can't reproduce it and there are no error codes in the computer, so... apparently I need to live with the fact that my brand-spanking-new truck just doesn't work right.

I'll definitely be writing a follow-up letter to Toyota and referencing the conversation in this thread. If a dozen people are complaining about the problem here, it's got to be a reasonably wide-spread problem.

Yes, I am not happy with the current situation either.

I have contacted 10 people that have this issue so that we can start working "offline" on the best path forward to get this addressed.

Since I could only message 10 people, if you did not get my personal message and have experienced this issue can you please send a message to me with this info? I'll try to combine all the info. Its easier for me to keep track rather than checking this thread.
Please share any with me what model truck you have (trim, auto/man) and whether or not all of the following observations you agree with:
    • Reset is not related to a certain fuel level.
    • Reset happens only after a start up in which the previous drive was relatively short, say 15-20 minutes or less.
    • Reset clears Trip A, Trip B, Tank avg. fuel, trip avg fuel, Current bar on graph in Eco app.
    • Does not matter if headlights/DRL were on.

Also, please include build date/plant if you know it. Otherwise just bought date and manufacturing plant. Also include how many miles are on your truck at this point and how many resets have happened that you are aware of.

    Thanks

fshams, what dealer did you report it to? I will call that dealer,if it isn't to far for me, and let them know my truck is having the same issue as well.

Swimmer, can you add the name of the dealership that contacted to your list? I was just told by a dealer I called that Toyota reads these blogs, and if they see a dealer name on it, they will call for details from the service manager.

I should be able to provide an update tomorrow or the next day on any progress I have made with my communication with Toyota about this issue.

My dealer in Columbus, Ohio is Toyota Scion West... www.toyotawestohio.com - (614-870-8200) My appointment was on 01/07/16 The service adviser I reported the issue to was Logan, but the primary adviser name assigned to me was Jordan Wilson... I explained the issue to them, but they claim they had no resolution. Please let us know what the dealer says.
I also called Toyota Customer Support lines and opened up a case with them.

Just returned from dealership. No Luck finding problem for the resetting of trip odometers. They contacted Toyota and was told to do more intensive testing. I would have to leave vehicle. Talked to mechanic and are familiar with 2016 model yet. They want to reproduce the problem. I will keep observing this situation.

Hope Swimmer has made some progress. Chime in Buddy.

Hopefully you guys are calling Toyota to report your problem.

I am waiting for the person at Toyota to get in contact with my servicing dealer. She called yesterday and said she has not been able to make contact yet.

When you consider this issue, the issue some have, including myself very rarely of the jumpy tach and speedo needles, and even how sensitive the instruments are to malfunction when someone makes a lighting change on their truck it sure looks like some component is very sensitive to voltage changes.

Mine reset a second time on the same tank today. After only another 3 miles. Irritating actually!

Offensive stickers and stuff the wife doesn't know about.
Glad I'm not losing my mind, this has happened to me three times now over the past say 1k miles or so (approx 3500 right now). I was getting on here to see if anyone else was having the same issue and low and behold. No common factors, minus that it's been cold as balls here haha, no stuck buttons or settings or anything. I'm gonna call my buddy who sold me the truck and put in a call to Toyota corporate and open a case.
