Hello, I am looking at upgrading my stereo and am not much of a radio guy. Ive been lucky in that my past cars has a pretty good factory system. My non JBL system is the upgraded version but still kinda sucks :) I would like to get something that had carplay, nav, XM and handsfree calling but uses the oem mic and XM antenna. Is that possible?

Ive looked on Crutchfield and I see I can retain the steering wheel controls, but does not mention the mic and xm antenna. I would think there is something to do that....

    Thanks!

I recentered my search-fu and found some answers. Looks like it is easier and better to use the mic that comes with the aftermarket system.

No go on reusing the mic, might be able to mess with the xm antenna. Another option is using the XM app on your phone to bluetooth/aux in on your new headunit.

I had thought about using the XM with my phone. Id be curious to see what the data hit would be. Also got me thinking...one of the things I like about the XM is that it works when no other radio will. Im betting that if I dont get a regular radio station very well at a location, my cell will be out too.

You'll need 3G or better cellular connection to stream data.

I stuck with stock radio and upgraded rest of the trucks audio. BT connection is solid. HU Apps work great. It's low profile and decent sound for what I want.

What did you do to upgrade your stock stereo components, if I may ask?

The bluetooth microphone receives power from the stock headunit. If I remember correctly it is somehow tied into serial data and or it uses low voltage output, not worth the trouble if you ask me. Use the new headunits mic..

As far as the Sirius XM, you can hack the wiring, as stock from the sharkfin uses a standard style plug, which then gets hooked up to buly some garbage proprietary Toyota extension plug. I am still trying to get that hooked up without making a huge mess. It should be right under the drivers kick panel inside a loom if you want to give it a shot. I still need to hook that up and my backup cam, but no one seems to have a damn clue as to where the factory plugs for the cam are on the JBL equipped trucks for 2012 and up. Everyone keeps referring back to the how to which pertains to 09's and below in every other thread I have read.

If it doesn't involve lifts, or a lightbar, no one ever knows a thing around here.

Have you tried posting something up on toyotanation.com ? They seem to have some very knowledgable audio folks on there

Sorry to revive an old thread. But does anyone by chance happen to still have their stock mic? And would be willing to part with it ?
