The same shit everyone else has.
What color truck? What else is done to it?

All black retros look silly unless they match the rest of tHe the truck.

I think all black kinda washes out the details of the retrofit. I do not like chrome at all but I think in this case it belongs.

It def depends on what color truck it's going on, too.

I just debated this as well, except I debated color matching. I ended up going black. On the shroud and headlight bezel. I used a metallic GM paint, but you can’t really tell so I wouldn’t get high dollar paint. I prefer to have the chrome bowl still so it has some dimension to it. When it's all painted black it just seems a little blob of a headlight and just looks cheap to me. Also keeping the blinker chrome helps the marker light/blinker bright.

    Thanks for all your input!!

So I’m good with my own headlights. I have enough extra parts to make a set of 12-15 headlights and I created this poll to see which style most would prefer.

Trying to sell retrofitted headlights gets old.... if I can get a consensus on the choices I posted I can complete the set and sell them off. I’d rather do it this way then to deal with someone who doesn’t know what they want and then they would still try and lowball in the end.

These threads are making me want to finally do a retrofit. I've been putting it off because it's expensive though. I want to do a morimoto mini d2s 5.0 with color matched housings. Just worried I'll mess it up like I did with my aftermarket tail lights...

I think the black surround with the chrome reflectors is cool and adds a little extra character by reflecting the light from the halo in the shroud.

This build I’m working on is the exact parts in Option 1, no halos or demon eyes just projectors.

Looking to make a decision because there’s no going back once I paint those chrome bowls....

Oh ok. Well with no halos I would say definitely don't paint the bowl, you won't really see the projector very well that way. It looks nice as it's configured in option 1, I think.

I agree, I feel like the painted bowls on our headlights (especially when painted the same color as the rest of the housing) just kinda looks like it was rushed. I prefer the OEM+ look. Where people take a second look and makes them scratch their head whether or not it's a factory housing. I debated color matching the projector shroud but I felt like it may not look right and I went with black. Ends up making it look smoked or black chrome with the bowl still being chrome.

A few mods here and there and counting....
Blacked out bowls looks out of place and cheap. The oem style of leaving the bowl chrome looks way better.

If you’re building to sell, I’d 100% only paint the bezels.

Any thought on doing the bezels in a “smoked/gunmetal” color to mimic the TRD and Pro lights? I bet you’d be able to move those pretty easy too.

thanks, but im only referring to the 2 options up top. i've done over 20 2nd gen tacoma lights and the main reason for this post to see which was the preferred build so i can finish this set and put them up for sale.

@david.e - how much do you charge for retrofitted headlights? For example - what would you charge for option 1?

im all for painting the bowl black, as you saw from my posts in your other thread. it matches the silver and black ive got going on with my truck.

though, i think for black shrouds, the shroud should be color matched.
