I have 2007 tacoma with automatic trans, when in drive or fourth reverse indicator in dash comes on as well as reverse lights is this something someone has encountered or is this something I need to investigate myself? when in neutral doesn't come on, only in drive or fourth. I only drive once in awhile (prolly 150 miles a month)

Your reverse switch on/in the trans is the most likely failed part. Locate it and remove it, bench test if you wish. Replace it, not that expensive, just a bit of work to get to it.

look for the service manual page for this NOT YOUTUBE. Service manual is online, just gotta search.

Daylight driving lights on the truck?

Might be corrosion on the trailer plug back feeding to the reverse pin on your trailer plug.

You are correct. Your issue is with the Park Neutral Safety Switch located on the passenger side of the transmission. See the below schematic for how it works for the reverse lamps.

    http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old...toyewd/06toypdf/ewd/2006/tacoma/h/em01d11.pdf

And then this is how the same switch works for the indications on the combination meter. Scroll down to page # 5 and you will see the Park Neutral Safety Switch.

No, They have them at Auto parts stores.

Make sure to soak the collar that mounts to the shaft of the transmission with penetrating lubricate over the course of several days, it can be very hard to remove esp if you live in the frozen wasteland areas that use tons of chemicals on the road in the winter. You do not want to beat on it too much as you could damage the transmission shaft.

See the image above how corroded it is...

there is a switch that activates the lights. It kinda looks like the parking brake switch on the linkage. They go bad as it is only a momentary plunger type

Go to rock auto, aftermarket are just fine for this, they should not be that expensive

Adding for anyone who may visit this thread in the future. Just had this issue. Replaced the switch and the connector and it didn’t fix the problem. Ended up being that I racked my trailer light connector on a rock and snapped the pigtail. 4 of the pins were bent over on each other. Fixed that and solved my issue. Way cheaper than the switch I just bought or a wiring harness replacement.

You wouldn’t be the first to damage it. It’s in a “bad” location.
    Relocation might be an option?
