I'm surprised that the reverse sonar doesn't come standard with the backup camera.

I guess I'm used to other vehicle I've driven with backup cameras that have this.

I'm sure there will plenty that disagree, but I have small kids, and live in a neighborhood with lots of kids....and would like to have this.

Anyone know if there is an upgrade on this?

Not looking for a bunch of replies about why I don't need it....

You can purchase wireless sensor systems. Stellar has a system for Tacomas. Not as nice as original, but they do the job.
    Autoanything.com has a few systems.

Isn't there a trim that has this feature installed from factory? If so, you'll be able to find an OEM kit instead of aftermarket. Not sure why Toyota doesn't include them with all backup camera systems. It's not on my 2014 Camry either. Get with the times Toyota!

That is what I was thinking. I thought the tech package came with this.

If I could add the OEM version that would be ideal.

Might be some work, there is also a button inside you have to buy on the dash it lets you turn it on and off.

I think everything is probably wired up though.

Not sure on the OEM part. Screen between the speedometer and tach displays distance to object, you would need to check if that screen is available without tech package.

I wonder if the trucks are prewired for these like the 2014 Tacoma's were for the backup cameras. has anyone looked up the part numbers for the sonars? this is also something that I would like to add to my truck ASAP.

there are aftermarket solutions that are available on Amazon and Ebay. On all my past vehicles, I had installed them myself, on my Frontier and CRV. I had also installed them on friends vehicles, Lexus RX, Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota Rav4, Nissan Cube. Drilling into the bumper was the scariest part of it, but once you got that done and fitted, its just running all the wires and tapping on the wire on the reverse lights. On SUV's its easy since everything is in the rear area. Trucks will require running the speaker and brain into the cab from the rear sensors, so just be sure when buying the set, the sensor wires are long enough to reach the cab. Some also have a dash mountable display which requires running the cable to the dash, but still fairly simple. You can paint the sensors to match the truck, so it will even look factory.
