For your info , 255/75r17 fit on 2nd gen with the 3rd gen suspension swap. No spacer or offset wheel needed.
They are easy to find on used market. Jeep wrangler willys come stock with those and jeep guys always want bigger so i scored 5 new tires for 900$cad

Does anyone know if 265/75R17 will rub with the 3rd Gen take offs?

I don't know any tire available in that size. A 265/70R17 (31.6" x 10.4") will fit no problem, most people put them on their stock truck with no issues since 265/65 tires are hard to find. A 285/70R17 (32.7" x 11.2") will rub due to the width of the tire, even on trucks with a 2-3" lift. Although some have ran 255/75R17 (32.1" x 10") on stock suspension.

The biggest issue is tire width on our trucks. Which is why the Kenda Klever RT 33x10.50 has become a popular tire. There has even been some running them on stock suspension, though I don't know if they off-road much?

I picked up a set of Gen 3 shocks struts/springs from a 2021 TRD off road owner with 5000 miles on them. I have a couple questions.

Red and green dotted spring goes on drivers side? Red and blue passenger? They only go one way?

This will raise my front end about 1 inch?

I have friend with rough country 2 inch lift kit for front end who wants to sell them to me. Would that raise my front end to much ?

anything else I should know going forward with this install next week?

Thanks to OP for the write up!

You got it!! Also refer to the first page, there is some more info on that subject if you are curious.

As for the RC lift kit (I'm assuming it is a spacer lift), it will work and it's totally up to you. BUT since the 3rd gen suspension already raises the front about 1.25" and the RC kit is 2" more, you'll NEED upper control arms to compensate since you will be well over the 2.5"-3" lift in the front and thats more the OEM upper control arms can reliably handle. IMO, it isn't worth all the extra work. But again, that's up to you. If you want a little more lift, you could always do a 1" spacer up front (they are $100 or less) and that will pretty much it exactly level depending on the condition of your leaf springs. If you're looking at clearing a larger tire, it won't matter if you do just the 3rd gen swap or add the 2" spacers....you can only go so big without cutting and welding.

I think the swap will be good enough for my old girl. I just ordered some sway bar links and bushings while I’m at it. I am going one tire size up but I believe i will be good to go.

Thanks for the reply and help!

Sooo I just picked up some 2022 rear shocks and front struts without coils on them. Anyone heard of putting the 2022 stuff in a 09 model? I got the whole set for 75$ and they only have about 100 miles on them. So I’m really hoping it can all swap

One size up will be no problem. Most people do that with the stock suspension since 265/65R17 is such an odd size without many options. My original post is with one size up (265/70R17) Goodyear Duratraces and surprisingly the speedometer was dead on accurate after I put them. Almost like Toyota designed it for that size but went one size down for some odd reason. lol

There should be no difference for the 2022 compared to previous 3rd gens unless you got the Pro suspension, which would still bolt up just fine but would raise it even more in the front. I just have to say, you probably got the best deal on those out of anyone on this thread unless someone got theirs for free! Thats a steal at that price, congrats!!!

The problem I’m having is finding coil springs. The guy kept his stock coils. I just found a set of 2021 Tacoma limited out of a 3.5 L for 50 bucks. But I cannot find any rating for what the coils are in a 3.5 L limited. Anyone have any insight on that? Or should I wait and try and find a 4.0 set

Here's my RC with 3rd gen OR front and rear suspension. I got the leaf springs and all from the guy selling his.
It for sure improved the ride on my truck but I'm sure this was mainly due to putting fresh dampers on, which a lot of people are doing when they get this setup. Dampers with 50k+ miles on them aren't going to feel as good as 5k dampers.

The truck was a little stiffer from the spring rate but not uncomfortable. Coming from 15 years of coilover'd cars, it wasn't my definition of stiff.

I would assume that it would be the same 700-ish lb coil. The reasoning is that the spring is why it lifts the 2nd gen. One guy here did the Sport suspension lifted pretty much the same as the OR suspension did. I can't find part numbers for the 21 model year though as I don't work at a dealer. Since all the 4wd 3rd gens are the same ride height (exception of the Pro), it's reasonable to assume that they are the same spring most likely.

    Still thinking about it.
I also bought a ‘new take off’ set of ‘22 TRD OR shocks (all four for $100) but no coils. Now I’m trying to determine if my stock 2015 base model coils will work for this swap.

Hi Guys, i already installed 2021 TRD OR shocks on front and back of my 2015 TRD OR. I'm noticing my bed still seems to "bottom out" when going over minor bumps. Thinking it's the leaf springs. (i have OEM 3 + 1 on them).

Are there different leaf springs or PN's for different 3rd gen models i have to look for or are they all the same? I have a 2015 DCSB and would like to match/replace the OEM's as closely as possible.

They have different part numbers and will give you a 3/4 inch lift in the rear of gen 2 trucks. They bolt right up.

So how do the 3rd Gen Fox Pro shocks ride in a 2nd gen? Looking for insight into ride quality

I'm assuming I'll need to pick up a brake line spacer bracket and possible some spacers to correct any lean?
