I have BAMF sliders and Pelfreybilt IFS skid and def know that the weight pulls down the front of my truck a little bit. I have coil overs so I can adjust but the armor definitely makes a big difference with ride height no doubt.

Good looking truck and I'm always looking for ideas on an overland. Real good info on the 887's.

Got my UG, so easy to plug it in and get some real time data! I opted for a horizontal mount, found that I liked it best above the rear view mirror and routing the cable through the headliner/front pillar cloth was easy, no need to remove any bolts/screws. Now to just figure out how to use it properly!

Went out to Hungry Valley OHV today. Got up way too early (0800) because I slept all day yesterday, got up to watch the Kings game, and fell asleep halfway through. Guess I was tired. But it was a good excuse to hit the dirt after the recent storm. All local trails were closed (LPNF sucks), so I decided to try HV. Never been before so it was a treat! It was nice to practice picking lines, get the feel for off-camber pursuits, play in 4wd and get some dirt on the truck. I hit a few ruts hard and scraped up the average rattle can job on the skid and even bent my trailer socket thingy- guess it's time to do the relocation mod. Otherwise, besides some desert sage pin striping, no other physical damage to the truck.

    [IMG]...posing, enough said

[IMG] Relentless aluminum skid held up well despite the ruined paint job. Not sure if the OEM skid would have.

Sweet pics! I'm digging that UG you got there. I have 33s and my speedo is definitely off so I'm in need of a UG myself. I've never been to Hungry Valley but definitely want to check it out sometime. I heard it's a really big area to offroad! Where in LPNF do you drive off road? I camp in SB and Carp all the time and have my truck with me but have never done any trails in LPNF ( I know there must be tons) Everyone says W Camino Cielo but I know there has got to be better stuff out there. :D

Thanks! I had never been to Hungry Valley either…not much of a dune or desert driver myself but HV offered a bit of both. Lots of area to cover however there are sections that have tracks going every which way- which is both confusing and frustrating. Not sure where this rabbit hole will go…oh wow there's a huge drop off! Kind of sketchy too because lots of blind corners and narrow roads, ripe for a collision with a dirt bike haulin' ass. That's the reason I don't do Pismo either. It's a 5 buck day use fee and there are a lot of campgrounds, no trees but they offer coverings and vault toilets and just wide open camp spaces.

The LPNF has WCC (which I think isn't that challenging or fun), there's East Camino (same thing but goes to the backcountry where there are hot springs and hiking), Catway OHV out of Figueora Mtn, just a dirt road, nothing technical or steep. Then there's a blue rated trail off Catway that eventually hits the back side of Davy Brown Campground. It's steep and windy, mainly just switchbacks but offers nice views of the San Raf. Then there's Big Rocks OHV out of Santa Maria, Ballinger out off the 33 near 166 and Sierra Madre off 166, all routes I hope to hit this spring. Other than that- that's it, not much.

Dang that's more than I thought...I'm sure the Forest Roads up near Los Olivos are worth checking out as well. I'll have to check out some of the spots you listed. Pismo is fun but I think unless you have a LT truck it's gonna be way more fun on an ATV or dirt bike. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to check out some of the OHV parks you listed. I know up the 33 in Sespe wilderness there has to be some bad ass trails or something out there. There is an OHV park off the 33 out by Maricopa or somewhere out there (I forgot the name of it though).

OHV park near Maricopa is Ballinger. Very popular with dirt bikes, not sure how it is with trucks. Agreed about Pismo and LT trucks. I'm more into taking a fire road or a off road track if it's going to take me somewhere. Lots of those near Kennedy Meadows/Kern which is where I like to take the truck. Locally just not as fun. If you ever do Big Rocks, let me know what you think!

I'm sure it was very muddy! After my trip up there for Thanksgiving mud, I'm convinced the fun isn't worth the PIA it is to clean the mud out from every nook and cranny. My engine compartment is still brown from that trip!

OOOO never done the Kennedy Meadows trip...I love fly fishing so I am due for a trip up there with my fly rod and some goldens on my mind. I've only wheeled out by Mammoth Lakes. Kennedy meadows is much closer!

I've been to Kennedy meadows in sept, water too low the kern was like a muddy trough of water. Monache Meadows I hear is an awesome place (haven't been but on my list this year), it's dispersed camping right off the Kern off an off road trail and I hear it's a fly fisherman's delight!

Shoot if I ever cruise up to KM or think about hitting that up I'll have to let you know. Yeah this year prob June/July would be good for hitting up some goldens fishing. Dang this is making me want to drive up to the mountains now! Mammoth is for sure my stomping grounds but I need to check out some new spots and fishing for golden trout sounds pretty bad ass. Being down in San Diego is great for the desert but takes a little more effort to get to the mountains.

Nice truck. How do you like the 265/75/16 BFG All Terrains? I'm assuming those are Load E. Notice a difference from the stock Load C tires?

They certainly are load Es. They ride the same, the only thing is that I think the Es are heavier due to more plys, and perhaps that saves me because I like to rub up against curbs with the sidewall  But otherwise ride the same, just obvious louder than the stock Rugged trails.
