Maybe you just need to answer the phone. :anonymous:

All kidding aside, I would like to hear what they find. Also as asked previously, can you record the sound and post it so we can hear it too for reference?

Never got it fixed. The dealer has no idea what it is. The best they could come up with was to rum premium, and that made mo difference. I guess when it grenades I'll know then:)

I know this is an old post... but it sounds like what I started hearing about a week back.
When cold and under acceleration I can hear some engine noise best described as a jingle bell. Not an engine ping or valve lifter noise. I have had both in the past on other vehicles. I do not know if it could be piston slap.

After the car warms up (like 15 miles) the noise gets quieter and almost goes away. I took it to my trusy mechanic, but it was too warmed up at that point and they could not hear it. Will take it back nest week. They thought it might be a idler pulley bearing going bad but could not explain why it would quiet down.

It started right after changing the serpentine belt. I was very careful to not move the CS pully while RR'ing the belt.... could I have messed up the timing??

This thread sounds so much like the noise I am hearing, any solutions?

    Thanks so much.

someone needs to pinpoint the issue rather than say 'mysterious noise' and random 'I hear something'

or we can say all model years have all sorts of noises. did it blow up yet ?

Hey guys, my 1996 2.4 2 lug just started this yesterday @2000-2300 RPMS ONLY IN THIS RANGE , under load and in neutral , 156k miles .
12k mi NGK iridium spark plugs,

High octane gas used for span of week no relief.
Car has a silent idle and not ringing in any other range no matter how much throttle input or thrash.

Glad to hear others still have this problem... it’s getting annoying at this point.. 6 months later and been chasing it non stop. Not heat shields, changed sparks a couple different times with high octane after to no avail. No noticeable exhaust or vacuum leak.. current theory is a bad cat that’s not throwing a code yet but slowly deteriorating. Tapping them with a mallet isn’t coming back useful and sounds intact. Mechanics are equal annoyed as they hear it back can’t track it. Tempted to find someone with a bore cam to jam all the way up into the cats if that’s even possible.
