Thats right. I forgot since he only stated it 20 times. I needed him to remind me how much better/smarter/wealthier he is at everything a few more times before I could comprehend everything. Maybe he will slow.... it.... down.... for me next time.

Where are all these supposed 90 degree turns coming from that will impeded air flow? Once the hood is down you have a closed loop with three 90's in it, two on a vertical plane and one horizontal -the scoop itself- how is that impeding airflow.

As for you Kennedy, you haven't a clue Marine not so much a minute clue. And no I didn't work for the FAA but work with them just as every pilot does. Go study some physics, it'll do you good, report back when you serve a purpose in this thread...

Agreed it has to be tuned to benefit even from a small amount of increased air. I bought this truck for a toy literally, I bought one new in '83 and thought Toyota made an excellent truck I have a Ford Super Duty for day 2 day and hauling chores. I built a race truck years ago and figured this TRD OR would make an excellent platform to build another. I like the looks of a hood scoop but can't see buying a nonfunctional version. It may not provide much improvement but matched with the TRD cat-back it'll give me something. It's a toy to tinker with, if what I and my fab shop have planned for it works out other 3rd gen owners could benefit too. I don't give a rats ass about the money, I like to tinker with crap at 52 I am retired and need to keep busy. Again, I keep busy by flying and tinkering with my Taco. If I have to ask in a super secret special TW way so not to offend or butt hurt folks then fvck that. I have never and will never give a damn what people think so...it is what it is.

    You dummy-
There would be literally 360 degrees of rotation between the first turn in the hood, the second turn in the airbox, the 3rd turn in manifold and then the bend to the heads.

Oh... since we're here, NACA ducts are used primarily for cooling heat exchange, not primary combustion intake, but you knew that since you studied with Mike Sweers.

I have a real Mechanical Engineering degree son; but more than that, I have a lifetime of real mechanical curiosity, wrench time, and unegotisitcal learning... unlike you, who, instead of trying to learn something, spends their time trolling like this.

Perhaps it's you who should grab a dictionary and discover the definition of "clue", because you still haven't ever experienced one.

Oh, and the GI Bill can be used for flight school. It ain't no feat to fly, I have my license too... non practicing, because unlike internet trolling, a fuckup in the sky is unforgiving- but only you would think being a pilot is something special, when it's really just a dumb kinda expensive hobby, like horses and shit.

    Go get em killer

Yes I am, keep in mind the air filter would be a low restriction TRD, the "plumbing" narrows on its path to the plenum which theoretically should negate any flow restrictions. Again, I know this is a truck and not the optimum vehicle for ram air but if I'm going to put a hood with a scoop on it, it will function. And again the scoops inlet will be controlled to only open at high rpm's when the call for more air exists.

To part of your original question, look at a turbo Hilux for some inspiration of hood design, at least for the underside. The intercooler it nourishes helps the turbo nicely.

Your idea at best will make an interesting CAI, which isn't a bad thing. But ram air? Not so much.

Since qualifications seem to be a big deal to you, I'll offer 2.

    1) an NHRA record
    2) I managed engineers

    Good luck w/your project.

He's not interested in any of that. That involves credible engineering and science and comes from someone that's never operated. You know shit to this guy Clearwater Bill.

    Whoa,

I have two "real" engineering degrees both from the UF Gainesville started with the GI Bill but I have been flying since I was 16, family thing really. You're right anyone can learn to fly and more should it's enjoyable, very much so. Discounting the plenum you have only three 90's and are negated to a degree by narrowing plumbing. Velocity can overcome restrictions the worst being the turbulence at the 90's and yes I know what a NACA duct was designed for however it still acts like a funnel yes?

Unless your way over 52 pal, I most certainly am not your son. I am not trying to reinvent the wheel just want a functioning hood scoop that offers even a minor improvement over a non-functioning scoop. How many times does it take for people to grasp this?

    Hi thanks Bill,

I've looked at those hoods but I don't have access to Australian HiLux's if I did I'd have the new diesel in my Taco. I agree, it won't add much improvement but it will work which is better than a hood scoop that doesn't.
