I am new to the community and new to Tacoma’s. Bought my first one about two months ago and looking to make it my own. I have been doing a lot of research into caps and I like RLD Design look and functionality a lot. Being that they are relatively new to the US I haven’t seen a lot of pictures/reviews of them. If anyone on here has one I would appreciate some input on how you like it pros and cons pictures etc. thanks!

    Welcome!
I don't know anything about RLD tops, but TW has an entire forum dedicate to bed covers/tops, you may check there.

I am also looking at one or a Alu-Cab. What I did to get some info and photos was a forum search for RLD Design and was able to a little info and some photos. If you found any info please let me know!

I talked to a rep from RLD USA. He was super helpful. I bought one but it won’t arrive till the end of November/early December. I’m planning on posting extensively about it once it arrives. They have some pics on Instagram and post sometimes showing tops. I color matched mine cement except the doors I got black. I was a little disappointed that the long bed version has two doors on each side to maintain the 700lb weight rating. But I loved the look of them and couldn’t find anything that was higher quality. If you have any specific question feel free to ask I did a lot of research about them.

Did you end up picking up your RLD topper yet? I have an appointment in San Diego next weekend to look at them first hand.

Any updates or reviews on your RLD truck cap? I'm interested in getting one as well and I too have a 6' bed.

I haven’t reviewed it yet I wanted to get a couple months of use under my belt. I have had it since about mid January. It’s a really nice cap I have a lot of pictures and have tested it pretty throughly. If you have any questions or want picture feel free to contact me.

Yea put pictures up in this thread for everyone to see rather than people Pm you would be ideal and instead of waiting to do a full on review… why not post up your initial thoughts, likes/dislikes and update as you get more time.

Here is mine. I am the second owner that’s why it doesn’t match my MGM truck. I don’t think i will paint it though.

I love it btw. Slowly building it out. I also had it since Jan.

Damn I’d of liked to see it in mgm with the black doors. That’s the main reason why I’m unsure between this and the alucab.

If you can take some closer pictures that dont require a super zoom?

Keep in mind you get what you pay for. If you want to go with a cheap cap go for the fiberglass.

You want any thing in particular? Now that I am sitting at the computer I will write out a more detailed post about the cap.

The thing is surprisingly light, I had 3 guys help me install it it only because it made it a cinch to lift it, turn it, and install it without sliding it on the bed rails. IIRC its actually lighter than a reinforced fiberglass cap at ~120lbs? What's also crazy to me is that with the doors open there is no load limitations, it makes me feel like the thing is bullet proof. I do wish that the back glass would fold down for easy cleaning but TBH my arms are skinny and I am able to reach in there when I am washing the truck. I am just OCD about having clean windows. My favorite feature of this cap (and their competitor, RSI) is that they have a positive pressure vent. Living in the desert SW means dust gets EVERYWHERE but if I have the little flap open there is none back there. Plus, it also pushes my dog hair out too :) Added bonus. I plan on insulating it later this month with Lizard Skin Ceramic Thermal paint. The inside is black so its very dark but after I insulate it I am going to wire up some LED's back there so you can see what your getting after. That would probably be my only complaint, with the dark interior and no side windows its really dark back there even in broad daylight.

About the side windows, since I am the second owner I didn't get to pick my options and side windows is something I really want. I called them up and they are going to ship me two for $250, I will just install them myself like the #vanlife people do. I thought that was really cool because there is so much after-purchase support.

When I purchased it I also bought a Front Runner rack to go on it, this is a really nice combo. The only thing I will mention is that I used a little RTV to seal up the mounting holes. It doesn't rain in the desert but I heard they can leak if not sealed up. Anyways here are some photos, like I said if you want to see something in particular let me know. It's an amazing cap and totally worth the price. If you get lucky like I do and find one second hand its a SMOKING deal.

BTW I have my Yakima rack on there only because I got tired of it taking up space in my garage. I will probably pull it off soon and put other stuff up there.

Pic 1: Shows how the corners are reinforced on the inside.
    Pic 2: Positive Pressure Vent
Pic 3: Closer up photo of the side door.

Does the positive pressure vent have any branding on it? I would love to add one of those to my shell.

I will check tomorrow. I am not sure. I will crawl up top and see if there is something on the top with a logo.
