    Hey all.

SOLD TO CARMAX 5/22/21. SHE GONE

Been reading up a whole bunch but finally picked up my 2020 Limited over Christmas vacation. Long story short I couldn't get the color combo I wanted locally since October, and found one in Columbus, OH which is close to where I was headed for Christmas anyway so I said better now or never.

Needed a 4door truck for the growing family coming in April, and the 2003 Xtracab wasn't going to cut it anymore.

    OEM build specs:
    Midnight Black Metallic over Black
    Limited
    All weather floor mats
    Door sill protectors
    Tonneau cover

    My build:
    Exterior:
    De-badged
De-chrome parts (mirror caps, handles, fog surrounds)
    Painted gunmetal SR5 grille

    Lighting:
    Meso ultimate turns
Meso total tail kit (stage 1)
    Meso puddles
    Meso headlight blanks (pending install)

    Interior:
    Sound deadening
    3M Window Tint (20% front, 50%rear, and 70% windshield)
    Meso Puddle switch
    Meso OHP 2switch
    SR black door pulls

    Creature comforts:
    Meso minimal key fob
    Meso Gashole
    Pop-n-lock tailgate lock

    Plans:
Full paint corrections with ceramic coat
    Stereo bits
Maybe wheels when the tires are done
Focus on the 2UZ swap 3rdgen 4Runner instead of tinkering on the 2003

    As arrived home:

Most of the chrome is gone, still on the fence with the front grille. Might see about picking up an SR/5 2020 grille and see if I like it. The 2020 limited is growing on my without the rest of the bling.

    Handles swapped out
    (2x) 69210-0E080-C0 - Front handles
    (2x) 69211-0E010-C0 - Rear handles
    (1x) 69217-0E030-C0 - Driver cover
    (3x) 69217-0E040-C0 - Passenger/rear cover
    IMG_20200104_162544.jpg

Taillights swapped for some 2019 TRD OR/Sports (Red/Black) and installed MESO total tail stage 1 kit.

Also went all in on sound deadening since I'm keeping this truck for a while. Noico butyl Mat, Noico 15mm foam, and soundsulate 1 lb Mass Loaded Vinyl.

P.S. JBL premium sound is a joke...

    Nice ride, awesome initial mods.

    Thanks

Vinyl was used on the rear wall and floor. It's the top layer you can see if the last photos of the floor.

You could do it in the doors but I've heard issues with adhesive failing and causing window operation issues. Which I didn't decide as risk vs benefit privy. Same with the roof/sunroof. The OEM rear wall mat is held by 6 push plug fasteners that were used to attach the rear wall vinyl. The floor obviously just lays there.

    70% 3M crystalline windshield
    20% 3M color stable fronts
50% 3M color stable rear over the factory 20. Pictures to come when it cures

Also scored a 2020 SR5 Grille to play with on eBay.

Not sure if serious or joking... but thanks. It'll be a pavement princess so I'm focusing on all my creature comforts and making it a driver. The 4Runner will cover the wheeling duties when it's back together.

I didn't. I had all the materials and was planning on starting the following week, but got the itch to "Do it NOW" so I just got to work. I'm thinking of going out to "test drive" another Limited and having the wife or maybe a buddy go with me to record the dB and then do the same loop in my truck directly after.

First for me of a BRAND NEW car, so I wanted to make it mine now. No sense in suffering through the things I'd like to have when I plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off.

2020 SR5 grille I picked up showed up today for some modifications and ideas. I'm on the fence for adding "Raptor grille lights" as I like them but I feel like they are over played and I'm kinda digging the super clean front end look.

Meso puddles were scored this afternoon for installation soon.

I need to stop buying mini-mods for this truck soon or the wife is going to get suspicious. But I may or may not also have a lead on a sport hood that is willing to swap as well.

Tell your wife its work requirement. I have raptor lights on my truck. Tbh I think your Sr5 grill looks prefect without it. I think it only looks good with the pro grill.

Can I ask what the method is how you did the soundproofing? What was the process?

    Remove EVERYTHING.

Layers where applicable is: Sheet metal/butyl mat (BM)/closed cell foam (CCF)/mass loaded vinyl (MLV)

In all applications you have to pay attention to fastener locations and clearances. Too close to push plugs will cause loose panels, or gaps. I started in the largest areas with the BM and then use the peal off backer to make templates for the more complex shapes and transfer them to the new BM/CCF prior to application.

Doors: pull panels, BM outside door skin, BM easy accessible inside door skin with attention around speakers, replace OEM vapor barrier, CCF over vapor barrier, reinstall panels. I chose NOT to do MLV in the doors as it has to be adhered to the skins applied vertically and is prone to falling and causing window operation issues.

Roof: Drop headliner, apply BM and CCF to accessible areas, no MLV, reinstall headliner

Rear wall and floor: This section took the longest, I did over 2 days (partially each day) and ended at almost 1AM due to having to need it together. There are TONS of fastener locations. Cut out "stencils" were anything from sockets to Diff pinion shims I had on hand. BM, CCF everywhere I could find clear metal. MLV went over all the horizontal surfaces. I had some issues with the thickness of the C-pillar vertial trims aft lower corner due to the layer thickness built up. The MLV had to be trimmed back and it went back together. I also had some fitment issues with the under seat storage boxes, but nothing difficult.

Be sure to have a retractable break off razor knife to keep cuts in the BM, CCF, & MLV clean.

I replaced all the factory "carpet deadening material" and left it all out

No bullshit this is probably the best answer to a question I've ever asked on this forum, thank you for taking the time to write this out.

Jeez, the JBL Premium speakers look like complete crap! I have to say that they sound perfectly ok for a stock vehicle (I am getting used to the front heavy soundstage they have) but now I want to change my speakers out. :(

Forgot to mention the MLV replaced the vertical hanging fiber mat Toyota used too. It took some extra trimming at plastics reinstallation for the child seat achors but is easy to fix in spot. I used the same push plug fasteners the fabric did and mounted the seat back anchors over it with no adhesive.

Glad I could help. What's the point of a build thread if you can't explain what and how you did it?

I absolutely HATE front stage sound. I'm just spacing out the stereo from initial mods because as you said it's not terrible SOUND for an OEM Toyota system

Also started playing with my SR Grille idea

Not a fan of the black grille but didn't figure I would be. This is the SR black pieces on my Limited grille frame. Have other plans but still needed to modify the SR base grille to accept the camera.

So a template was made and a bit of cutting and sanding later the fit check was SAT.
