Rockford Fostgate p300 12” or 500p 12”

I will be putting a sub woofer in my ‘05 Tacoma Access Cab. As of now I have Infinity 9630cx Components in the front and Infinity 6532ex in the rear. I am using an alpine ilx-W650 with the added alpine kita-450 amp.

I really would like to add some awesome bass to my current setup.

I am pretty much stuck on these two:
Rockford p300 12T and the Rockford p500-12p

Again this is an ‘05 access cab so yes both will easily fit I just cannot decide which one.

I’m leaning more towards the 500 amp and I can just dial down the bass if I feel there is too much.

…the 300 I am sure is great as well but I have a feeling I may be regretting not getting the 500.

I’m really looking for something to kind of shake things around a bit.

Any suggestions I would greatly appreciate.

 

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. The 12P has a 500w rms vs the 12t's 300rms and hits a little lower in the frequency range, but the trade off is the larger diameter box dimension. I think Crutchfield has a pretty generous return/exchange policy if you're not happy.

BTW, how do you like those infinity's? I've looked at those same ones, but heard the tweeters can be a tad bright.

You say the trade off is the larger box dimensions but after measuring the back where I will be putting the Sub I have plenty of room for either the 300 or the 500.
I still have to finish hooking up the power cable to the battery and ground and splice to the brake detector wire…I plan on bypassing this in the future. It is extremely hot outside and have no light in the garage so I may wait until this evening because I have a tendency to faint in hot muggy weather, lol

I will be sure to update. I hope the Infinity’s work well all around as I really am not in the mood of replacing them.
This is my very first aftermarket audio installation and even taught myself how to solder. It was fun at first now I just want it over with! Lol

Just hang on until this evening it should be finished by then…I cannot wait to start Eq’ing

 

I’ve listed an Audio Frog GB10D2 and a D’More Engineering E1000.1 amp that would pair up together perfectly and out perform both of those Rockford subs in my opinion. Wouldn’t be too much more than you’re looking at with the Rockfords price wise. The Frog may not fit though. Not sure. Let me know if you’d be interested. If not best of luck and of those two if you’re looking to shake things I’d go for the ported box. I’ve got a ton of seller feedback on the board in 3rd gen sections

 

this is tempting. I have never heard of that 10” subwoofer before but just do you know I mostly listen to hard metal…seriously down tuned guitars and some even pretty bass heavy…small amount of rap but metal is my main thing.

Just checked both decent asking prices but what sucks is I am a TOTAL NEWB when it comes to audio…well since installing most of my current audio project I know a little more…but I have no idea how to properly wire this thing up…I guess that is what google and Reddit are for.

I am going to have someone rip me off hard if I take this to an audio shop especially them having to build me a cab for it…maybe not but I may stop over there and ask them.
…are there perhaps pre-made cabs online for this particular size sub?…just a thought.

Oh and officially probably the dumbest question here from a newbster…I’m probably going to have pay some audio shop to build me a speaker box for this to fit my truck…I hate audio dealerships they wanted to charge me $800.00 to install everything I figured out and installed myself…everything is so simple once you have done it but $800.00!!!
I’ll have to think on this as again I am not sure I want to deal with getting a custom box made when the p500 drops right in.

 

Attrend makes several boxes on Amazon that’ll fit this sub. I have one I’ve used it in I’ll get the model number for you. The sub doesn’t have to be wired. You flip the switch from 1 or 4 ohms and done. Just wire a pos to pos and negative to negative and done. This is a pretty high end sub with great sound quality for all music and great output for a 10. It will get down

This is the enclosure I used to test this sub in. It’s not a bad thing enclosure especially for the price. You could always use it until you get one made or pay somebody like marv to build a birchwood enclosure for you. This enclosure and the GB10D2 would ultimately cost you less than the pre fabbed Rockford and sub and you’ll have a much better subwoofer. I’d recommend some research on this Frog before buying the Rockford. This frog is comparable to a JL 10W6
