I want to get a versatile roof rack for my Tacoma, but don’t see any options that are good for adding j-bar style kayak holders, snowboard holders, or something like the Rod Vault or Trxstle CRC rod holder system. I know everyone loves the Prinsu racks, and while they look awesome, I’ve yet to see any thorough posts about adding these types of accessories without major modifications to them. $700 is a lot for a rack, so I want to make sure I can actually make it worth while. HELP

Have you tried Yakima or Thule?

Thules ski racks work with snowboards and fishing rods. ZERO modifications as they simply wrap around the crossbars:

I have on previous vehicles, but never liked how they (at least the ones I had) had to be attached to the vehicle. I want something that bolts into the existing mounts/screw holes in the roof ditches. I can’t stand the though of something touching my roof/paint

So Thule accessories work on the Prinsu racks as they are? If so, all is well. The fly rod holder I want to use is the Trxstle CRC (https://www.trxstle.com/product/crc-system/

Going to reach out to them as I’m sure they have some other Tacoma owners who want to mount these.

Black roof wrap call it a day. Itll look good on your white wont scratch your paint and dont have to worry as much trying to clean under the rack

Doesn’t solve the accessories issue though?

I’m running Prinsu cab and top rack and use it to carry kayaks and a fly rod holder. The rod holder simply clamps around the Prinsu crossbar. For the kayaks, I ended up using my old Yakima towers to mount the wider round Yakima crossbars on top of the Prinsu rack. Took a couple trips to the hardware store to get the right nuts and bolts, but took 2 kayaks 6 hrs down the interstate with no issues.

Bought a Trxstle rod holder. Clamps to my Prinsu but needs the low profile clamps. 20200301_145155-02.jpg 20200229_150204-01.jpg

Wow I love how low profile this sits. Do you have a picture of how it mounts?

Sorry, got distracted. These clamps wrap around the Prinsu bar, not perfect but good enough. The standard Trxstle clamp is taller and has locks, I had to buy the low profile clamps because the rack fits so close to the cap.

For a rod rack..check out rac-a-rod, more for spinning rod setups. Hal is a stand up guy and the product is solid as a rock.

Yeah that is nice and low profile. Looks awesome. Thank you for taking the time to take some more pics!
