I've often wondered what other BajaRack owners had for clearance between the roof and the rack. My initial roof brackets were much too short resulting in less than 1mm clearance between roof and rack! I notified BajaRack and sent pictures, they agreed, and they made new taller brackets. They state that the design should allow for 1” – 1.5” clearance between the roof and the rack. It would appear that your clearance is about 1/2". In my opinion lower is better, as long as the rack doesn't impact the roof when loaded, it's really a non issue other than it's more difficult to wash / clean the roof.

I also second your comments about calling BajaRack's office. They are very helpful. They can answer any questions as long as you're very clear in what you want from their product line.

I might wash my truck once a year. Less the longer I own it. If it were my roof I would just hose it down and do the best I could. No worries, it's a truck!

Lots of salt. The once a year is in the spring. Try to get most of the salt off. She sits outside all year.

I will never understand this mentality. It's a truck, so it doesn't need to be taken care of? Your truck is $20,000 on wheels out there, and because it's in the form of a truck you don't care?

It is not that I don't care about the truck, I love the truck. I don't care what it looks like. I wash the salt off when I am sure there will be no more snow storms and the sand has been swept up from the roads. My truck is driven daily so washing the road salt off during the winter to have it right back the same or next day is pointless.
The cleanliness of the roof is far from important to the operation/maintenance of the truck. It gets all maintenance on or ahead of schedule.

Would you be pissed if someone keyed the crap out of your truck? Why? It's just looks that have been damaged...

Salty roads = rust. I wash my cars after a snow storm any time that there's going to be a break in weather for at least 5 days.

Yes I would be pissed, because that is a personal attack on my property. However, I have pin stripes all down the sides of my truck from going out narrow trails for work. Those don't bother me in the least.
You may feel like and even enjoy washing your truck, have fun. Save the judgement though. Like I said, I wash it once in the spring to get most of the salt off. I personally doubt that there will be a noticeable difference in the frame when either of our trucks are 10 years old. But whatever helps you sleep at night.
And lets see how you are doing once your truck isn't brand new.

I guess I'll just never understand it. Regardless of age, I wash my vehicles at least once a month. To each their own! :p

My last post came off as condescending when I just read it, and it wasn't meant that way. My lifestyle doesn't allow me to clean it and expect it to stay clean for any amount of time. I live on a dirt road and get it covered in mud regularly. I use it for farm work, and field visits for work. It's frustrating to get it dirty the day after you cleaned it. So I stick to once a year to get the salt off, and don't try too hard to get the roof spotless. But I still do like the look of it clean.

No offense taken! That makes a little bit more sense to me! I hadn't thought about living somewhere where it's just not possible to keep it clean.

Haha, everybody has their own way of doing things.

Personally I wash her all the time. She gets parked outside, and I have oak trees over the driveway, in which a bunch of birds sit in and shit all over the driveway. It's not uncommon for me to wash it 2x a week because of those goddam birds. But it's really not difficult to wash under the rack. There are big gaps, and I use a wash mitt, so I just work around the bars. Not too tricky.

For sure. I do know that if you purchase the optional mesh flooring on the rack, it's damn near impossible to clean. But without it, there's plenty of space in between the bars to push a mitt or a rag around. And not that you'd want to do it every time, but the entire rack dc's in about 3 minutes. 6 easily accessible bolts and you could have it out of the way for a major decon!
