Wow that y pipe looks incredible... @Roostfactor you did an incredible job with that. I feel the price is reasonable for the product. I have the URD equal length long tube headers, URD y pipe, and URD 3" exhaust. Not super pleased with how it sounds, but I'm not devastated about it. I'm curious as to how this sounds with headers vs the URD y pipe

To be honest $1000 almost seems too reasonable haha. That thing is beautiful. Almost a shame to put it under the truck where it will eventually corrode and look like most other exhaust components. Equal length done right is glorious.

For clarification, I never said that it wasn't worth it. I'm aware of how much work went into it and fully understand the price tag which I'm not debating that at all. This is clearly a well designed and executed item with lots of time involved which is readily apparent. If others want hand-made customer exhaust components this is a very nice piece & nothing about my post was to take away from that fact. We're all in agreement.

My post was more along the lines of trying to help the man find a way to sell to the masses which is usually the goal once one puts forth the amount of time and effort he has in order to recoup some of that investment of time plus R&D. This is usually the next step whenever someone creates something along these lines is finding a way to mass produce it in an affordable manner w/o sacrificing quality in order to bring it to market with a competitive price tag.

I don't think anyone was accusing me of saying it wasn't worth it to this point but I've seen enough of these threads over the years to see how they can devolve. Before you know it someone is reading into my post after three pages of misunderstood posts that make it seem like I was saying something negative near the beginning. I just want to get out in front of that so this thread doesn't run off track from people who may misunderstand the purpose of my post.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread....

@loginfailed would be best to answer that question as he had your exact setup for quite awhile before I made his equal y. I did hear his for 10 minutes or so and the difference is readily apparent.
The equal length makes the exhaust sound quieter and more tuned. It sounds smoother and more exotic if that makes sense. Of course as objective as I try to be I might have some unintentional bias so hopefully loginfailed or @5thGearPinned will chime in.
Sound clips wont do it justice though, that's for sure.

I never took it in a negative manner and value your opinion.

The equal length Y-Pipe was a huge improvement in sound on my truck vs the unequal length. Having had unequal length and equal length back to back, I would NEVER reccomend an unequal length Y-Pipe on the 1GR unless the person didn't care about performance or how shitty the sound turned out.

Hopefully the structure of this makes sense...

    Loginfailed exhaust iterations:
    • 1.0: URD headers, URD unequal Y, URD MK3 exhaust
    • 1.1: URD headers, URD unequal Y, Vibrant 1142 resonator (x1), URD MK3 exhaust
    • 1.2: URD headers, URD unequal Y, Vibrant 1142 resonator (x2, in series), URD MK3 exhaust
    • 2.0: URD headers, @Roostfactor equal length Y, 3" cat, Vibrant 1142, URD MK3 exhaust
    • 2.1: URD headers, @Roostfactor equal length Y, 3" cat, Vibrant 1142, URD MK3 exhaust, another Vibrant 1142 after muffler
    • 2.2: URD headers, @Roostfactor equal length Y, 3" cat, Vibrant 1142, URD MK3 exhaust, chopped off 2nd resonator, turn down after muffler
    Impressions:
    • 1.0 (loud AF, smelly, not happy)
    • 1.1 > 1.0 (much more bearable, still too loud, still smelly)
    • 1.2 > 1.1 (little better, still smelly, not satisfied)
    • 2.0 > 1.2 (huge improvement, very livable, no longer smelly)
    • 2.1 < 2.0 (extra resonator after muffler actually made it louder, wait wut?)
    • 2.2 ~ 2.0 (current setup, very livable)
Currently, the volume is very livable. There's no rasp at all. I like the way it sounds at idle, at cruising and at WOT. At WOT, the tone has what I like to refer to as an "angry V6 sound". The only negative currently is on the freeway at 65-75 there is a hump in the frequency measurements in the 110 Hz range. It isn't really an issue, except for long rides like this week's Houston > Dallas > Houston trip. Its OK for 10-15 minutes, but after 3+ hours it gets a little annoying. The plan is to make a Helmholtz resonator to try to target 110 Hz and attenuate it somewhat.

Currently I have the Loginfailed 1.1 exhaust setup. My biggest question is, how does the equal length y pipe make the exhaust not smelly? I figured that was what you get with taking the cats off but I wonder how it did that on your truck

We installed a Magnaflow 59959 3" metal spun high flow cat. He has that in his description.

I wish I had a decent microphone to do clips. My iPhone 8 and GoPro 5 always cut out when I try to record exhaust sound with any volume to it.

You got that right! $1,000 is reasonable for this. I started off with a URD Y-Pipe and then we spent a chuck of change just in parts to make it equal length. The materials alone are a pretty good chunk of the price. @Roostfactor is working pretty cheap, here!

Yes, added a 3" cat after the Y-Pipe. @Roostfactor beat me to it.

Ahh ok I see now... that makes sense. I don’t mind the smell I guess but I bet other folks in the parking garage at work do.

I also think $1,000 is worth the money... Wish I had an opportunity to get one before buying my setup

For entertainment purposes... Here are some pics of my unequal length URD Y-pipe getting transformed into an equal length. Courtesy of @Roostfactor.

This is what it looks like out of the box:

The man, the legend. He re-used much of the original as possible, substituting fresh mandrel bends where needed to get the desired shape:

So this means @Roostfactor can sell me a URD y pipe conversion kit... right?

The conversion kit is just the material and mandrel bends. Sure I can hook you up with that.
Putting it all together correctly is where it gets tricky. :)
