Not to derail the thread... But it's funny you say that, my URD setup totally sounds like it leaks somewhere. I've checked up and down and cant find anything. when I rev the engine I get a blow off valve type of sound and when cruising there's a light hiss present. Looked everywhere for leaks but can't find anything. Even if there isn't a leak, i still can't help but worry about it sounding the way it does

    Do you have URD headers?

Gadget mentions using his manifold-to-ypipe gaskets when using the urd ypipe....instead of factory gaskets to prevent leaks at that junction. Self marketing or the truth, u can decide.

Also, the slip fit on the urd ypipe is lousy. Just weld that seam up instead of using the slip fit clamp. The welded ypipe will be removable like that.

    Remflex 6006 gaskets are awesome!

I have the URD equal length long tube headers.

I did not know it was still removable with that clamp welded together. I will be getting this done soon, then...

His gaskets are far superior. I worked at an exhaust shop. They are much better quality and should last much longer. I wouldn’t use them on an oem setup cause it’s not needed, but would definitely use them on aftermarket headers and exhausts

just be careful not to overtorque them or you will bend the flange. You don't have that potential problem with the Remflex since it seals the whole flange area and not just a donut.

I was gonna mention the bent flange part.

My problem With the two hole gaskets is they generally fail sooner because they are designed to work with a much larger sealing surface than a header with a recessed flange like the urd’s can offer. You’ll get a decent amount of time out of one on a street truck (maybe 12-18 months) but they don’t seem to last near as long on an off-road truck.

Have you tried the remflex graphite gaskets? I totally understand what you mean about the standard flange gaskets but these are pure reinforced graphite. I have had exceptional experience with them.

I have used graphite 2 hole gaskets in the past on customer cars with good results, but I’ve also had more cars than I could ever count come in with 2 hole gaskets on a recessed flange that were way blown out. I definitely think your choice of two hole gasket is the best option for that style gasket paired with that style flange and have no doubt they will hold up for a decent while. I have an extreme distaste for any form of exhaust leak. I was gonna they v-bands on my urd headers but just don’t have the time to rework my y-pipe or build new support brackets off the motor. Hopefully soon I’ll be back to spending as much time as I want fiddling with parts on my own truck.

I fully understand that one. I was going to install v-bands on my header to y-pipe connection but just as you said, I would have to fabricate a new trans to header bracket and add a flange to the header.
    It works fine as is.

I cheated. Added a short length tubing and a v-band, slipped over the OEM header outlet. Then made the y-pipe to fit from there. Not the "purest" choice, but damn easy. Kept the trans support.

    @Roostfactor , could you remind me. Your y-pipe is 2.25" or 2.5"?

@Roostfactor Do you have any insight on why my URD setup hisses? You asked if I had the URD headers so I thought you might have some ideas

I think everyone with the URD headers has a bit of a tick/hiss sound at lower rpm. I thought I had an exhaust leak for awhile but after chasing imaginary leaks and talking with others it appears it's just a common sound.
Now, if you have not welded the slip fit on your y-pipe that may be causing your issues.

My URD Y had the same sound. I think it’s partly due to it being unequal length. It doesn’t do it anymore though.

I think I’ll be getting that slip fit welded ASAP. I appreciate the reply as my current setup has me worried and a little regretful that I had it installed in the first place.

For you, did this resolve after the roosterfactor y pipe? I’m hoping that welding the slip fit will be the solution

My slip fit was welded and it made that sound. It’s greatly reduced by making the y-pipe equal length. @Roostfactor made my URD pipe equal length and the thing sounds totally different, much improved in every way.

The darker sections are what’s remains of the URD pipe.
