You got the new URD equal length ypipe or the URD unequal pipe?

I'll be selling my URD ypipe.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. Sometimes I wish I hadn’t gone down the road of performance upgrades but I must say driving is a lot more fun now after having them done.

I have the unequal length y pipe. Wait, does URD make an equal length now?

I think he is referring to URD's Spec-U exhaust. It does have an equal length y-pipe but it is not of any tuned length.

I felt the same way after I installed the URD unequal y-pipe. Sounded like crap. I was considering putting the stock stuff back on.

Thankfully @Roostfactor convinced me that unequal length was the problem and he made the URD y equal length. After experiencing both versions back to back, I wouldn’t recommend anyone run an unequal y-pipe on a 1GR.

Other than the sound, how much performance benefit is there in the equal length?

It’s pulls harder and carries further throughout the powerband, besides sounding smoother and better, the exhaust pulses are helping each other and not fighting themselves when they merge. Instead of hitting each other at the merge, they are going in single file help pulling the other one through or out is a better way to say it. Roost has figured out the right length and diameter so that the whole pipe is tuned for the optimum rpm range for our engine. It gurgles when you are off the gas and coasting, idling. It’s awesome.

    Basically what @5thGearPinned said.

On these engines, the left bank and right bank are basically taking turns firing a cylinder. When both sides are the same length, the distance an exhaust pulse has to travel is equal on both sides. So now the pulses are also taking turns at the collector.

With unequal length, the paths are different distances so you get exhaust pulses arriving at the collector at the same time colliding with each other. When two pulses are trying to squeeze though at the same time it impedes flow.

That's awesome... Just so much left on the table with the competition y pipe... I hope I can get my finances well enough off to be able to buy one of these things before Roost gets too deep into his 2nd career!! Haha

For those of you with this y-pipe already installed, do you have your AFR gauge sensor located in the merge? How much are your AFR readings on the gauge impacted by this location? I currently have the URD ypipe with a single AFR guage reading from just behind the passenger header flange. The aft bung that comes pre-installed from URD on that side. MyAFR at idle and cruise is spot on at 14.7. Wondering what the reading will change to with a bung in the merge on John's pipe.

    Do you have stock manifolds?
I have an afr on each bank near the stock rear o2's. Mine fluctuates between 14 and 15 at idle and cruise.
If you put yours at the merge you would be reading cumulatively from both banks which is better than one side but not as good as reading from both banks.

Not stock, have Doug Thorley Shorties. Just curious how much the AFR reading gets offset moving it back to the merge if anyone with that sensor configuration can chime in.
