Need to clean/lube the pins that hold the pads in. If the caliper is not free floating it will hold pressure on one side (outside) that wears it out much more quickly. I cleaned mine with a scotch brite pad and put anti seize on them. If they are pitted or scored, then replace them.

If you want to get technical.
The minimum Front Rotor thickness is 26mm
Minimum pad lining thickness is 1mm.

I myself change the pad when I think they look thin AND I have time.
Usually before 1mm. As time is my biggest factor.
Typically I change the rotors with each pad replacement. But not always.
It just depends on the vehicle.

The Tacoma Prerunner and 4 X 4 do not have Floating Calipers, they are fixed and do not move.

My bad, If the PADS are not free to move back and forth on the PINS, they will wear more on the outside than on the inside, and they will wear unevenly across the face of the pad.

I'd like to contribute to this thread if the OP doesn't mind and ask a question that is pertinent...

Do all the 2nd Gen Tacoma trucks have the same rotors?
If not, can you upgrade them?
I have an 08 4WD SR5 DCSB with almost 140k miles and am pondering replacing the rotors and wondered if the TRD models or others come with beefier rotors that can be used on other models etc

You have the best Toyota offers.
You'll need to look after market to get better brakes.
The general concensus is braided steel lines help a lot.
Followed by slotted rotors and better pads.
