I am working on this 96 Tacoma. I posted before about the Air charge temp sensor. Its throwing a code. I came here and got some info and decided to go to the AEM website to see the intake system thats been installed it the short ram v6 2.4 I was looking to see where the sensor plugs in and Discovered they didn't put a hole in the pipe for the sensor. also they had the sensor plugged int the vacuum port. So not getting enuff....neither am I. air !!! not enuff air. the throttle body looked good from the air intake view. but i opened up the butterfly and there is a 1/4 " of sludge in there so took it off cleaned it out . I cleaned the maf and the tube and reassembled . stoked cuz now i know whats wrong with it . I used a 5/8 in paddle bit and drilled a hole in the back of the tube. started the truck up and all be damned... very low idol stalls backfire etc... I work by myself most of the time so im trying to keep it running long enough that i can get to the throttle and its adjusted correctly any ideas on what else could be wrong error code p0125 and the MAF adapter has a 1" X 1/2 D. nipple coming off of it. sposed to have a hose on it that runs to the throttle body somewhere. any help on that would be great. oh and i guess this guy decided he would slap an oil air filter on a dry flow system so oil all over the chrome How do i get that off ? If i had the stock parts I would switch back I have placed a call in to the previous owner and asked WTF??? no i asked for the old parts he thinks he might still have them if so This piece of crap is coming off./ This is the filter, Maf adapter and the nipple Vacuum??? idk. upload_-1(11)[1].jpg

Man what a joke of a system they made!? Most times after a TB cleaning guys need a couple few drive cycles for the ecu to relearn everything then it will slowly return to normal but its almost always a high idle not a low, so..idk. Have you pulled that sensor back out to test if itll run like it did before? It pry wont i suppose though since the TB has been cleaned and needs to be run a bit.
That port thats capped, i believe on mine that runns all the way across and over to the charcoal canister and into one of the lil valve dealio things over there. Sorry im not more help...

You are correct on all counts how long of a piece of hose do you think i need the AEM install guide says 12 in. lol. the canister is over by the battery The c lips from the old system are still in place it looks like it routed across the top of the radiator??? I didnt tighten the bolts on the intake to the throttle body. Im guessing thats why it ran like that. I pulled the whole short ram off the re-chrome it . Best online place for Tacoma parts? cant find a damned thing i need in this town.

Did you remove the IAC from the bottom of the throttle body when you cleaned it? If that gets plugged up with crap it will idle really poorly.

if you could find a stock air intake system your pickup would be happier. I 2nd the IAC. Mine was gunked up on my 3.4 from someones CAI they put on. I ditched it for a stock air filter setup. Pickup runs a lot better and it was terribly filthy in there.

Got a call out to the previous owner he thinks he still has the old stuff . I would never have put that on there and if I did, I would have put it on correctly

Its amazing how many dipshits take out their true cold air intake and replace with a damn hot air intake thats labeled as a CAI since its now pulling hot air from right under the hood!! I must confess however...i was once young and dumb and one of the "many dipshits" lol

Agreed, that "intake" looks like shit. Seriously. The original airbox IS a cold air intake, you are sucking in hot air from the engine with that thing.

Its a fuel injected engine and you just cleaned the throttle body . Next step is removing the battery cables from the battery .
